I have a custom, built from scratch AR-10 coming in next week with a Kreiger match barrel and I am looking into optics for long range shooting.
Per John Plaster's "Ultimate Sniper" book the Nightforce NXS scopes with mil-dot reticles have their reticles etched into in the first focal plane. That is, as you increase the magnification the size of the reticle increases to keep the mil-dots to scale so you can use them for range finding at any magnification setting.
Another source I read stated that Nightforce reticles are etched in the second focal plane. That is, the reticles remains one constant size at any magnification setting.
Who is right?
Are the first focal plane reticles only available on certain models?
Any opinions on these highly regarded scopes?
