The ultimate in protection for your guns

Sometimes heavy steel construction is just not enough to deter burglars. I have my pistols in a TL-15 safe. Access to the contents is poor, but there is a lot more protection than the residential security containers. I have added an additional layer of protection, as you can see in the attached photo. If a safecracker should be able to open the door, he will get a surprise of vicious claw and fang ready to tear him apart!

And there are units out there in the big box stores that you can quite literally stick your finger into the gap between the door and the hull. I've done that myself.

I'm not trying to denigrate the Brown, it's a fine safe. What I am trying to do is give other folks reading this thread some points in what makes a better, or worse, unit for their valuables.

The Sturdy also supports the bolt on both ends. It rides in a rectangular frame welded behind the door, and goes behind a substantial amount of metal and some sort of dense filler. Look at what supports the bolts on the majority of gun "safes" sold in places like Walmart, Tractor Supply, Bass Pro, etc. Not just from pulling forward, but from pivoting when the door is pried. One reason I believe Sturdy is a lot of bang for the buck as far as being pry proof. It's not a "safe", but is a good compromise between the multitude of flimsy 10/12 gauge sheet steel units, some of which are expensive, and a real step up in security.

The Brown looks like a real nice option. And of course Graffunder is a well known quality product.

If gun safe makers would only be more upfront in advertising about what materials are used and how the unit is constructed it would making shopping easier.

Some day if I have the piece of sheet steel off the back of the door again I'll get a good pic of the way the bolts are supported on both ends by the heavy tube steel.
