In case anyone was interested, I had my ears fitted for some custom ear plugs. I thought this would help to just wear these with the glasses so I didn't have to get my ears crushed with the muffs. Well, had to wear the muffs with these plugs and it took me all of a second to figure out I needed both. When the Beretta 9mm sounds like a .45 -- you need double protection -- and I'm hearing imparied in both ears....

Looks like the search is still on for me to find the most comfortable ear protection that doesn't crush the sides of my glasses behind my ears...what a pain.

Have you tried the Peltor Ultimate-10 muffs? They're a couple of ounces heavier than the typical muff, but are oh so comfortable and only run around $20. They don't crush my ears at all and don't interfere with my glasses. And they're rated at 29db too.

I don't know what you bought or how they were fitted but I can tell you that I had a pair of EAR, Inc. Insta-mold plugs fitted a couple of weeks ago at the FL State IDPA Match and they are as good, if not better, than my Peltor muffs. I paid $50 for them which I thought was high until I wore them for a while.

Maybe yours were fitted improperly...

Since I live just 1hr from EAR, Inc, I had them take molds of my ears and make some custom plugs - whatever model is one up from the InstaMolds.

I sent one plug back to make it a little "bigger" for a tighter fit.

These plugs are much more effective than normal 33 NRR plugs when they are correctly seated (licking them before insertion helps), but, if they are jarred, they are much less effective, since they do not expand to fit.

I always wear plugs and muffs when I shoot these days. My .45 then sounds like a stapler and I can concentrate better.
