The mausigfield action is $1,600, direct from ARC or as quoted from SAC

The Manners T6A is $1,115

I'll bet the rest of the work is pretty comparable

Why .308 I must ask for that kind of cheddar I'd done a 6.5 creedmoor or maybe a 6 dasher or 6mm creedmoor ?

When i was smith shopping i found most of thr shops familiar with the mausingfield to be similarly priced but delivery timeframe was LRI can be slow via email, or not at all but they have always answered the phone and been very helpful. I received my quote in 10 mins over the phone.

Will the stock be bedded or mini chassis? Painted? Custom inlet or standard?

Right now, I'm only shooting 100/200/500 yards. I have a lot of .308 components and it's the round I shoot the most of.

Also, I want the option to shoot an F T/R match if the desire moves me

Having said that, the barrel changing feature of the mausingfield action gives me the option down the road for other calibers. My next will be .260 Rem

I'm leaning heavily toward chassis. Painting it not is not.a priority. From my understanding, the only area where the action might need some inletting would be around the bolt release, if that. So as far as I know, nothing custom required

I know my KRG Xray for a rem 700 short action was plug and play, nothing but two bolts to tighten.

Well, the deed is done. Now the wait begins and the search for the right scope. I'm going to be over my budget but ......in for a dime, in for a dollar....right?

Alrighty then, being green with envy, I'll chime in on a riflescope prospect. I've yet to see any optic that'll sway me from a Sightron SI3. The top shelf is nice for sure, Kahles, Nightforce etc. Sightron's value proposition is pretty darn good. Just a thought for you Nature Boy.

if you don't like money, don't care about weight, but love your eyes and like seeing the target, Vortex Razor Gen II line are amazing. they are big and heavy but very clear, comfortable to get behind, have good adjustment features and a reticle that I find easy to use without "getting to know it" in that it provides enough information to various holds and measuring but not too much info that you get lost.

The Vortex razor HD gen II and Nightforce ATACR are leading the pack right now. My "budget" is $2,000-$2,500

Since you are going with an ARC action, i'll put in a plug for a set of ARC rings. they are a little more expensive than others, but I like the design and the big hefty bolts that lock things in place.

With $5K to burn you most be single/with out family or still living with you parents. No envy here...........just other priorities. :)

You might want to take a look into the semi-custom cooper rifles. They look pretty nice
to me and are supposedly accurate. I know they can be bought over
the counter.

Short Action Customs has gotten back with a quote

General specs:

Mausingfield action
Bartlein Heavy Palma, 5R, 26"
Threaded with hellfire brake installed
Timney Calvin elite trigger
Manners T6A stock
Action and barrel cerakoted

Right at $4,300

They recommend not going with barrel nut

So are these the final specs you went with on your rifle? I'm very jealous, I'd personally prefer a different caliber, but I understand you are set up for and partial to the .308, so your decision makes sense. The Razor 2s and Nightforces I've looked through were very nice, I've never bought a scope of that caliber, but when I do it will be either a Razor or Nightforce. Also, most of the guys I shoot with are using Christmas tree style Horus reticles, and they are amazing for quick shooting in high wind conditions.

Edit: I assume you went with a 10 twist so that you can shoot the better heavier bullets, 208gr ELDs and whatnot?

Next question......

It all depends on your priorities, there is no shortage of folks trading for a new truck every few years who are pissing away much more money on assets that are guaranteed to lose value almost daily. It seems like everyone where I live has to have a boat, a camper, a 4-wheeler/side-by-side and a diesel truck to tow it all with... A $5k rifle looks downright cheap by comparison, and a well put together custom rifle with components like the OP mentioned is probably never going to lose more than about half of its value... Unlike most of the other previously mentioned toys.
