I very much like the 40 cal round,

I very much like the CW9 (I shot one last week)
It seems like an excellent choice for CCW

At the range I ALMOST put 9mm in my 226 40..........
Would rather stay ALL 40 cal

I cant find a CW40 to shoot

I fear the CW40 will kick too much because of the small size. (I like to shoot my CCW at the range)

What can be done to reduce recoil on these pistols?

I have heard of getting a ported barrel and putting hogue rubber grips on them.

Has anyone done this? What was the impact?

Proper grip and a sensible load is all that is needed. Don't bother with marketing hype and ++++P++++.

40 is 40 and the CW is not so small a platform as to make it unmanageable. YOU CAN DO IT!

A ported barrel will help some as I still have one from the two K40's I had and hogue rubber grips are great but only come standard on the alloy/metal frame guns not the CW series. If you know of someone who needs a ported 40 cal Kahr barrel I have one I'll sell:D. The K40's that I had were right snappy to say the least but manageable. The biggest problem is getting use to that famous Kahr trigger.

just because your paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you! :what:

Hand strength, shooting style and personal preferences will probably determine how much abuse you are willing to stand. I have a CW9 because i feel the 9mm round is adequate, and it is more controllable for me and i would feel better shooting the lower recoil gun in a higher stress situation. I am sure you can mitigate some of this with more practice but i don't have the money to practice as much as i would like because i am a poor college student. I also would not want to buy a gun that i HATED to shoot (like a 357 J-frame) and the CW9 can begin to get slightly uncomfortable after 50-60 rounds. I imagine that the CW40 gets worse faster, though i have never shot a long string with one.

It helps that my other semi-auto is a 9mm CZ 75, and that 9mm is cheaper. :)

I have a CW40 and love it. It's not a bad kicker at all.
I think most of the bs about the CW40's kick is generated by companies that port barrels.
Maybe in the smaller Kahr's such as the PM40 is hard on some people but the CW40 allows a full grip.

Keltec made a .40 version of the P11, it was withdrawn from the market, the pistol functioned technically fine, but most shooters are prone to limp wristing the P40, so most shooters CANT shoot the gun.

I have heard the CW40 isn't as bad, but really, why use a questionable platform when the 9mm version works so much better.

I have a PM40 and the recoil is not bad at all. A buddy of mine just bought a P45 last weekend, not bad shooting either. The CW has a full length grip so it shouldn't be bad either. One thing that's nice about the Kahr's is that they are very concealable. I can speak from experience. I work on medical equipment in hospitals and doctors offices and wear my PM40 in a Crossbreed Mini Tuck IWB holster everyday while working. I'm always on the floor, crouching down or whatever weird position I need to get into to complete repairs. No one has ever noticed anything on my hip. You can tuck your shirt in around the gun too which is nice about the holster. I'd bet you won't regret your decision if you buy the Kahr. Good luck.

My CW40 has never failed.
When I go it I gave it the recommended 10 point pre-lub and it went through the recommended 200 round break-in without any failures of any kind.

Unlike Judo, I found the recoil on my PM40 had a tendency to snap the back of my trigger finger in the trigger guard. I experimented with different grip positions, hard and soft gripping of the pistol, one handed or two handed. Same problem.

I had mine mag-n-ported and it corrected the problem. In my experience mag-n-porting works as advertised. It worked in my S&W 629 in .44mag, and it works with my Kahr PM40 in .40 S&W. In my carry Sig P229 .40S&W, I don't have that problem; its heavier.

Of course, you might not have any problems, some do some don't.

I never said it failed
I haven't even shot it, but I am going off what I have read, and my experience with a P40 and P11,
http://www.ktog.org/reviews-p40.htm
http://www.mouseguns.com/PocketAutoComparison.pdf

I don't think that 3 Oz more in the Kahr is going to do that much, I can shoot my p40 accurately and reliably, BUT double tapping or trying to rapid fire ends with a FTE, I'm sure that I can improve my form to stop limpwristing, BUT its a problem that is inherent with a pocket monster, for me, it's too much, too small/light.

Ok........ answering my own question

Today I found a range with a used CW40

A BIT more recoil than the CW9....... but not much
AND accurate as well

I will still add hogue grips........ and I HAVE to blacken the slide

But the CW40 is the one for me

Good to hear it and glad you got to try it before you buy it. Too bad so many consumers of other products aren't as savvy as firearm owners or as discriminating.

Dean1818, try to PM me again for some reason my computer/Firefox isn't letting the PM through.
Sorry for the trouble....
