CX4 .40S&W or 22lr AR/M16?

I am incredibly conflicted. I am about to enter the Long Gun equation into my collection but I can't decide on a used Beretta CX4 in .40S&W or a New AR/M16 format 22lr. The 22lr would allow much more shooting for the $$$ but the CX4 would have some actual firepower. Either one will be used primarily at the range making holes in paper. Anyone make this decision already and why did you select the one you did....:banghead:

How about a CX4 in 9 mm. It would be much easier and cheaper to find ammo.

Funny thing about ammo around Chiburbia .40 @$13.97 50rds is on most Wally Shelves while devoid of 9mm and .45acp. Also I have a couple of lines on used .40's for reasonable $$$$.
