I was thinking of one of the above rifles mostly as a range toy. I have a CZ 452 in
.22 LR that I love, accurate out of the box with a great Trigger.
Is the 527 as accurate and does it have the same trigger setup? For paper punching is this my best choice in a .223 Bolt action?

I have one, and it is extreamly accurate.

Yes, it has the single-set trigger.

I don't think you can go wrong.

Like the 452, the 527s are great guns. The 527 American is almost identical in size to the 452 American (is that what you have?). All of the 527s have the single set trigger (SST) which is completely different from the 452 trigger. The SST can be used in set mode or in normal mode. In set mode you can adjust it down to a few ounces. In normal mode (which I prefer) you can also adjust it down to a low pull weight while still maintaining a margin of safety, but not as low as in set mode.

For bench shooting/paper punching there's also the 527 Varmint that you might want to consider. It's a substantially bigger gun than the American and shoots like you'd expect a heavy-barreled CZ to shoot. Here's mine with a 30-mm Vortex Viper 6.5-20, giving you an idea of the scale of the gun.

CZs are wonderful rifles....I have the CZ 527 FS in 223....single set trigger...not only is it amazingly accurate....the full stock(mannlicher) is pure eye candy!!

Ditto what RC said he recommended that i buy one (527-223)and i did!it is the finest most accurate rifle I own . i have a nikon monarch 3x10 scope on it . easily 1 moa rifle with my handloads of 25.5 g of varget with either the 55 or 60 g V max hornady bullets.

I had two and they are fantastic rifles. I sold them both because I didn't have a use for a 223 bolt gun. If CZ would expand the caliber list to a 527 American in 6.5 Grendel, I would be on that like white on rice!

Solman;

I've got a 527 American in .223, the only caliber the left handed version comes in. It's a good gun, and my secondary coyote gun. The reason it's secondary is 'cause I live where the wind hits hurricane force and the primary coyote gun does better in the wind. Coupla days ago we had a wind storm, near 100 mph winds all up & down the front range. And that wasn't a bad one.

Now if you want to see some CZ fullstock eye candy, go to rimfire central, CZ forum, & pick up the picture gallery. When you're there, go to page 169, thread 2531. It's not a 527, but I think it's worth a look.

Ditto. I have been wanting to build an AR in 6.5 Grendel, but I would be just as happy, if not more happy with a CZ.

I really like the full stock models. I have a 452 in 17hmr that is a beauty.

I've got a .223 527 Carbine with a 2-7x32mm scope on it. It's a great shooter.

I like it so much I got a .22 LR 455 Trainer too. I put a 3-9x32mm scope with AO on it. It's also very accurate, at least when I don't twitch.

I am now thinking to look at a 527 varmint in .223 as well.
No rush I will decide in the coming weeks I guess.
There are variants in the 527 varmint models so I have to figure out which one I might like.
Is the varmint a better shooter than the american? Again this will mostly be a paper puncher at the range so I am not sure if the higher price is necessary for me

Solman;

The idea that one model of CZ in the same category, is inherently more accurate than another, has been hashed & re-hashed on the CZ forum at Rimfire Central. The consensus is that it really does depend on the individual gun.

I like my 527 American in .233. That being said, it's shooting a bit over 1 MOA and I suspect I can get those groups tighter. I plan on bedding the stock in near future and may start loading rounds with longer COL to get closer to the rifling.

All that being said, I'm real happy to have the rifle. Lightweight, accurate enough for field purposes.

The only "complaint" I have is that I bought it back when the .223's were 1 in 12 twist, not the 1 in 9 they sell now. It shoots the Wally World Winchester 40 per box hollow points (40-something grain pills, haven't seen it in a while though) into an inch at 100 yds. Great little rifle.

Well I took the leap and ordered the American. Can't wait till it comes in. Now I have to figure which scope for 100-200 yds target shooting.
I was thinking of the Weaver t-36 for my scope choice but, I'm not sure if this is my best choice. The $450 price is about max for me but I would have to wait till my play cash comes back up.

That T36 is a dedicated target scope. It will not be good for much else. I have one on a bench rest 22lr.
