Has anyone had the chance to shoot one of the 308's yet?
Been thinking real serious of getting one, but haven't had the chance to see one up close and personal.

I've handled one, but I'm not in the market for it so I didn't pay much attention. If I was looking for a darn good target gun for a good price, I'd look VERY closely at it.

I like and highly recommend CZ rifles, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. However, in recent weeks, I've found a worthy companion to the CZ's: the Howa range of rifles. If you want a laminated heavy-barrel .308, see here for a few examples of the Howa range. They're competitively priced with the CZ as well, although I don't know if they have the set-trigger option CZ offers (which is worth gold, BTW).

I own a CZ-550 American in .308 with a Nikon ProStaff 3-9 scope mounted on it.

Fine rifle. Well balanced if not a bit on the light side for .308. But then I use it to punch paper and after 30 or 40 rounds the recoil gets a bit annoying. For hunting it is the perfect weight.

The set trigger is a nice option - which I rarely use. The straight pull is light enough and has a nice clean break. The set (push forward) trigger is much too light IMO as it comes from the factory (feels like ounces to me) and though it is adjustable (instructions in the manual) I don't feel mechanicaly inclined enough to warrant attempting the adjustment.

Be advised the scope height is up there - rings and mounts come with the rifle and they are quite tall. I don't know if shorter rings would work or not - anyone? The scope height is a bit uncomfortable for me but not unduly so - just enough to be annoying after a long session.

For the money I don't think there is a better value out there (well - maybe Savage).

Everything Werewolf said, except I love the set trigger for punching paper. (I've got the .223 version, 527 American)

I just bought (pick it up tonight, CBI was down yesterday:( ) a CZ550 in .308. wood stocks, SS bull barrel. I put a Nikon 6x18 on it, and a Harris bipod. Should basically match my 527 in .223 but with more range to reach out and touch something. :uhoh:
The test target for the 550 had 3 holes in under an inch. at 100m.
Pretty darn amazing for a $500 rifle.
Oh yes, Jensen Arms (www.jensenarms.com) is getting out of the hunting rifle business. I know they still have a couple CZ550's with laminate stocks (I bought the last wood stock). Probably worth a call, the prices were amazing. I paid $497 for mine.
Hopefully the weather stays good after Christmas and I will report back with an update.
