I finally got to the range to shoot my CZ-75B.

I am speechless.

First of all, I am not a great shot. I'm decent. I shoot maybe a couple of times a year (but after this, I'm going a LOT more: the CZ is FUN). The first ten shots all hit tight in the center. See the picture.

That's ten shots in there. TEN.

I couldn't believe it. I never shot this well with my Glock 17. The CZ shoots differently than the Glock. The Glock is much more snappy and has muzzle flip. The Glock also shifts in my hand a little bit. The CZ, on the other hand, settled into my grip snugly, and the recoil impulse was just like a 9mm but not snappy. The CZ continued to shoot tight groups like this over and over again. I was having pure shooting joy. I guess I had my first czech-asm.

Pros and cons.
  • Pros: This gun shoots better than me. It has ergonomics that fir me perfectly. It's a proven, world class pistol in every regard.
  • Cons: I could only find one: disassembly is not a quick or smooth as a Glock or Beretta, but that doesn't bother me much. Some say the gun has rough internals, but I don't think so. Check it out.

Couldnt agree with you more! I just love shooting mine as well, the gun just seems to fit.Only draw back to carrying it everyday is the weight, its on the heavy side esp. if you have the 15 shot mag. Here's a pic of mine in action.
(My cousins wife is shooting it in the pic.)

CZs have some rough "internals" - but only where it doesn't matter.

They're not as nicely finished as a Beretta or SIG, inside, but they function quite well. And, as your pictures show, they can be quite accurate.

Nice shootin'! :D

I've got my unfired CZ85b (same as 75 but with ambi controls) in my range bag and hopefully will be firing it for the first time later today. I hope I get similar results.

What ammo were you using? I didn't see that in your report.

I have to admit I wasn't all that impressed with the accuracy of my CZ-75 until I replaced the worn extractor. I tightened up the new extractor, and the groups tightened up as well. I love it when a plan comes together.

I hear it over and over again from shooter everywhere, "CZs ARE ACCURATE". I do believe because my CZPO1 out shoot my XD and Walther P990 at the range anytime of the day.

I had the exact same experience with a 75BD, now I'm in the market for a P-01. I will have to pick up a 75B soon, too.

Enjoy.

The first time I went to the range with my CZ 75BD I went with three other friends of mine. There ended up being a line just to shoot my gun, as everyone had alot more fun shooting the CZ than their own guns.

Shamus, if I had a gun that shot like that, and IF I could shoot it like that, I'd probably sell all my others.:D

Great. You joined a very informed group of shooters.
Now go get yourself a CZ97b and be amazed!!!!
If we could all get together and convince CZ to produce a 10mm 97b, then we would all be looking at targets like that. With bigger holes. And standing next to furry things. With big holes in them. And stuff.

Congrats on finding a most excellent handgun. Recently I acquired a pre-B 75 circa 1992 and have yet to hit the range. The Pre-B models do not have a firing pin safety. Good shooting, looks like you found a keeper

Tom C.: I wasn't all that impressed with the accuracy of my CZ-75 until I replaced the worn extractor.

Any guesses why the extractor would make a difference? Does it touch anything when the pistol is in battery?

The extractor can't have had any effect on accuracy. Zilch. Nada..

I suspect that it was just that several changes were made at the same time and the shooter's confidence improved, along with the guns reliability.

Once the gun is in battery (ready to fire) the extractor has no role. In fact, you could remove the extractor, hand cycle each round, and the gun's accuracy would not be affected.

Well, Walt, what if it was hitting the rear of the barrel? A hair too long?

Congrats on the CZ, they do flat shoot. GREAT guns.

Put some skateboard tape on your Glock, just enough to keep it from moving around. My G17 is VERY accurate, but not quite as easy to get the accuracy from when compared to a 75B. I do prefer the 17 for action shooting games though.

Ammo used:

Winchester Winclean BEB FMJ, Federal American Eagle 124grn TMJ, Winchester white box 115 JHPs. I'm trying to use the *clean* ammo. The JHPs were to test for reliability and the CZ fed them just fine. I was hoping the clean ammo would mean less fouling in the barrel. As far as I can tell, the TMjs and BEBs (brass encapsulated base) do shoot cleaner, but I'm to sure as to what degree.

The CZ has no modifications. All springs and such are original.

There is one thing I forgot to mention: The dots on the sights could be more visible. At the indoor range, the dots were a bit hard to see, so I used the silhouette of the sights when shooting.

Shooting distance was 10 meters for that target.

There's an easy fix for the sight dots: Testor's Flourescent model paint.

Its cheap, comes in a variety of colors (at your local hobby shop or Wal-Mart), is fairly resistant to solvents, and really shows up well in bright to moderate low-light.

Its far better than the factory luminescent paint, but not as good as good night sights with "white" surrounds.
