is the CZ-82 picky with ammo?

i mean i suppose any autoloader can be at least a little picky with ammo, but is there any particular stuff that it doesnt like?

I've never had a malfunction of any kind with mine with American Eagle, Brown Bear FMJ, or the silver bear JHPs that you showed. Granted, I've only had mine a couple months so I've only got probably 3-400 rounds through it, but I certainly haven't heard of many (any?) reliability problems with these guns.

Mine is not at all picky. It handles factory S&B as well as handloads without a problem.

Mine is also not picky. I have shot Brown and Silver Bear 94 gr, Sellier & Bellot, and Fiochhi.

I've shot about 400 rounds of the Silver Bear through mine - both hollow point & FMJ without any issues. It's actually quite clean to shoot. I've also shot about 100 rounds of CCI Blazers and also no issues. Not one hiccup...

You're talking about one of the most reliable and dependable guns in the world. It has been referred to as the AK-47 of pistols. In other words, it will shoot darn near anything. And the ONLY 9x18 makarov ammo that I would even consider to MAYBE have an issue with any 9mm makarov chambered pistol, would be American ammo. But russian and czech ammo was made specifically for these pistols. Buy the silver bear ammo. Matter of fact, spend the extra $1 per box, and buy the Silver Bear HOLLOW POINT ammo. Then you have great plinking ammo as well as an ammo that's also pretty effective as a self defense round. Or if you really want a good defense round, get some of the new Buffalo-Bore 115 grain 1000 fps ammo. I've heard good things, haven't tried it myself. But silver bear ammo is great ammo. And if you know where to look, you can still buy it for about $8-$9 a box.

My CZ-82 has yet to malfunction in any way. I haven't had much opportunity to put this pistol through its paces but it has seen around 700 rounds, though all but 50 were Brown Bear and Wolf Military Classic hardball.

Personally, my "standards" for defense start at 9x19 and go up from there, so I use my CZ-82 only for slaying cans and paper. My Bersa UC9 is the exact same size and offers one extra round (but in 9x19), so it has replaced my CZ-82 as my "bag gun".
However, if I were only allowed to tote a pistol chambered for the 9x18 cartridge, there isn't a doubt in my mind that I'd choose the CZ-82 (and not just for the greater magazine capacity). In my opinion, the CZ-82 is simply the most capable common found platform for that cartridge.

Mine eats anything except the Russian 100 grain conical ball rounds. I use that in the Maks.

Never a problem - many rounds fired of all types. Good carry pistol, though heavy.

Mine didn't work well for awhile. I was using Wolf, and the slide would lock back before the mag was finished. I got the middle Wollf spring (16.5 lb???) and no problems since then.

Well, I haven't had mine for that long but I have put about 300 flawless rounds of the Silver Bear FMJ ammo through it. I can't say enough good things about what a sweet shooter these 82's are and how accurate they are. The Silver Bear has functioned consistently, is accurate and as others have mentioned is relatively clean.

I just got to put another 75 rounds through it this weekend before we got rained out. One of the guys in the group suggested we try to hit a soda can on a stake at 28 yards. One shot at a time for each guy till someone hits it. In this group we had 1 - CZ82 (me).....1 - Colt 1911......1 - M&P .45......1 - Browning Hi-Power and one Hi-Point 9mm (lol).

I was the last to shoot in the group and nailed that can on the first shot. They scoffed at that and claimed it was luck until we went for round 2 and they all missed again. I too missed on round 2 but did rattle the can so went to look and I punched a hole on the stake about 1/2" below the can.

Needless to say they were glad see the rain come. LOL

I did not want to say it, but I can get better hits with the CZ82 at 50 yards off hand than with my Glock 17 with a fancy trigger and barrel - it is a hell of a gun for the money - just heavy and large, but comfortable to carry and not hard to conceal in my opinion. I hope not too many folks find out about them.

Oh, I believe the cat's out of the bag. It's just for most, the compliments are hard to believe for a surplus military pistol selling in the $200 range. However, at the first-hand experiences continue to trickle in, I think we'll see the availability of $200 CZ-82 dry up and go the way of the $179 K31.

And now, with Buffalo-Bore providing a 115 grain flat nose cast for self defense, it's the best of both worlds. I already carry it 70%+ of the time for concealed carry. My Sig P220 and Walther the other times. But with the 115 grain Buffalo-Bore, I think I'll be carrying the CZ-82 even more; in the winter where I normally wanted the 45acp to get through the heavy clothing. I love the original military and police weapons. They are better than ANY of the modern weapons. My CZ-82, W. German Sig P220, and S&W Model 13-1; I'd put up against almost anything modern.

It's not picky with ammo and the 3 different 82s I've shot handle SB just fine.
