CZ disappointment

the instructions, in short....

you need a hammer, piece of wood, piece of duct or masking tape, a punch pin, and patience.

iirc i punched the extractor out from the top. i put a piece of tape around the top of the bare slide and placed it on a piece of wood. then i used the pin punch to drive out the extractor arm. be careful when you remove the punch, the spring will make the arm and itself jump out of the cavoty. install the new one and drive the pin in from the top. you'll need to use your thumb to hold the arm and spring in the slide, which will be a little hard but you'll get it with patience.

the extra power extractor spring may or may not help, but being $3 i think it should've come from the factory, and should be bought when buying parts or magazines for CZs anyways.

not all bullets are the same, i noticed that rainiers have a more rounded nose than the flatter hornady bullets i reload with. that may also have something to do with it. i've never shot or examined what georgia arms makes.

I've heard the .40 S&W CZ's aren't as reliable as the other calibers. Is this true?

It hasn't been true for me. My 75b in .40 has been great!

Can't speak for others.

And I'm yet another 75b .40 owner whose gun has been flawless – including reloads, aluminum, and steel cased ammo. No failures and I’ve lost count of the rounds. In fact it’s become my favorite semi-auto and round, second only to my Colt’s 1911s. It’s laser accurate and the platform works great with the .40.

To the op – before installing the new spring run 100 rounds or so of S&B through it and see what happens. It’s quality ammo, reasonably priced, a tad hotter, and made in the same place as your CZ. Couldn’t hurt.

Otherwise the gun should go back to CZ.

^^^ what a quote..... 16k+ rounds through mine and i'm at the point where i'm adding more than 1k/month through it, and it still puts one ragged hole at 25 yards through a bench rest...

just finished a match yesterday at cool springs gun club. ate about another 180 rounds reliably the infamous sand pits under stress of an action pistol match. it's been about 500 rounds since the last cleaning, too. next breakdown is tomorrow after a 200 round count tuesday practice session where i should be crossing into 17k after the wednesday 150 round count match. then a light cleaning before thursday's steel match, gonna do some load testing on saturday, and then sunday at south river gun club. wheee!

oh, and i find the CZ pistols in .40 s&w reliable enough for me to put my life on. i use them to compete, but also to carry and defend the home.

Well, I have 4,000 rounds thru my 75B SS and 3,000 rounds down range with my 75D PCR and not a malfuction of any kind.
My Glock is in the tool box of my truck.

My CZ-75 has not had any issues to date.

BUT, i have experience with CZ customer service on a rifle with a bad magazine. it had issues very similar to yours. i called them up, and they sent me a FREE magazine, without ever filling out a warranty claim. that fixed things right up.

Give CZ USA a call and talk to their gunsmith. Chances are that you wont even have to send your gun off to get things made right.

One thing about CZ you can't say for a lot of other manufacturers (I know, their made overseas) customer service. CZ will sell you "anything", sears, triggers, pins of all types, you name it.

Try that with S&W or Ruger. As far as the ill feeding 40 cal 75, call CZ for a new mag, or get a new Meg-gar. I wouldn't change the extractor spring. As a last resort, send it back to CZ.

My bet is it's going to be a simple fix, just aggravating to have problems with a new gun.

Well, my experience with the 40P had been rather sordid. It runs 100% now, but for the first, oh 300 or so rounds, it was not uncommon to get at least one FTF per mag (10 rnd). After swapping out the mags, putting a steel FLGR, and polishing the feed ramp to the point where I can use it as a magnifying mirror, it runs just fine, just rather dirt-sensitive at this point. So put me down as a CZ .40S&W user with BAD experience. That aside, I do love how the gun feels, and accuracy is excellent. It can probably run right up there with most match pistols as far as accuracy goes, FWIW.

Dirt sensitive? If I were you, I would ditch the cz and buy a reputable piece such as a sig or h&k, or even a glock. As is often true in life, you get what you pay for. Let the cz'ers continue to tinker away and feel relief each time they return from the range without a malfunction. Forums dedicated to CZ's have been reading like alcoholics anonymous support groups for years now. I got rid of my 2 czs (75b and compact) years ago and have since learned my lesson on budget firearms. Where's my keltec?

As is often true in life, you pay what the market will bear. Sig or HK, overpriced in my book.
I own, sell and service many CZs. I cannot remember the last time I had a failure or malfunction with any of my CZs.

I think you've confused CZs with 1911s.

Got any more CZ's you want to sell cheap:p My 97B has been "dirtied up" on purpose. It has run like a clock now with 800+ rounds since being cleaned last, going to 1,000 before I clean it.

That's funny! I had 6 HK USPs on the rental range, 5 were broken a year and a half later later. We had 5 Glocks, three were broken, one broke the slide under the ejection port.. Every SiG broke in that same year and a half, a P220, P226, and P232. The two CZs we had did not break. Neither did the Ruger autos or Smith revolvers. The HK P7 ran forever...
Tinker? I added Crimson Trace Lasergrips, does that count? No other changes/upgrades/parts replacement in any of the 7 CZ firearms we have had/do have.
The rental range is a crucible for handguns, for certain. But that type of blanket statement is funny, especially when I know better from personal experiance.. :)
It's OK, the great thing about this country is the wide variety of handguns available for everyone to choose from, even in Cali, and nobody has to be stuck with what they can't stand.
