Hi all,

I will be testing out SD ammo with my CZ P-01 in a few days. One of the cartridges I will be testing is the Federal 147gr. HST.

During my research I came across a couple of posts where people wrote that they heard that 147gr ammo causes slide locks with the P-01 but I could not find any first-hand accounts.

I would appreciate any first-hand experiences using 147gr ammo with the P-01 and any problems that it caused (or not caused).

Thanks for any info that you can provide.

I shoot 147 grain ammo thru my P01 all the time.

probably 400 rounds or so.

I dont even know what slide lock is, and have never had so much as a bobble.

So I think you are good.

Well 147 has always locked the slide to the rear when it was supposed to in my PCR, and the PCR always loved the 147 and 147+P HST I used in it, along with every other cartridge I could stuff into the magazine and chamber.

147 in 1988 was a supremely poor compromise to deal with a training issue and deficient either-or bullet design.

147 in 2010 is the tits.

I dont even know what slide lock is ...
I assume it is premature (i.e., with rounds still in the magazine) engagement of the slide stop. I am very skeptical that 147-grain subsonic, with a lower recoil impulse than the NATO load the pistol was designed around, is going to cause this.

From what I read some have claimed that because of the size of the round that it somehow actuates the slide stop causing the slide to lock back after a shot?

redarmy67,

I appreciate your response. I would rather this thread not turn into a "which one is better" argument. I'm just trying to gather info on possible malfunctions.

Thanks

Never happened with any 147 I have used in my PCR, not HST, not Fiocchi, not Hydra-Shock, none of them.

I'm not personally familiar with the P01, but the CZ 75s have a common problem of the larger 147s not clearing the the slide stop lever.

Maybe that's where the 'info' came from.

The solution is simple. Just remove a little metal from the back end of the slide stop, and then polish it smooth. I have done that to my 75B.

Detailed info is available on the CZ Forum.

Thanks 1SOW,

I posted this question at CZForum as well. Here to get the larger audience and there to get the more specific audience.

When I read that about the P-01 and 147gr ammo I had visions of parts being sheered off so I figured I'd ask before running any through it.

One of the members there mentioned that CZ makes a factory replacement slidestop for the SP01/CZ75 that is already trimmed.

From the replies so far it looks like the P-01 is not affected by this.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I reload 147 truncated cone ammo for my 75sa. I was having problems with the bullets contacting the slide stop sometimes causing premature slide lock. As 1SOW said the solution is to file a little off the slide stop. Just take off enough for the bullets to clear and still be operated by the follower. Here's the slide stop that is already reworked by CZ Custom. http://czcustom.com/Slide-stop-CZ-75/85/Sp01-9mm.aspx Mark
