Stopped by the local Gander Mountain the other to check out the used section for old S&W's and managed to drift over to the new auto section and spotted a new P-01, handled it and decided that I want it to keep my 75-BD company. They wanted $469 plus tax for it. That seems a bit high. What do you think? Also, how do you like yours? I can check out the place where I got my BD from but , there 45 min. away. The BD was $339 there. Thanks in advance.

I have a P01 and it is my only CZ. I paid $440ish for mine and that seems to be right around normal prices as I have seen them a bit cheaper and a bit more expensive.

So far I have had no failures of any kind. I am actually quite impressed with this pistol. My only complaint is takedown is a bit more difficult that most with how tight the slide stop is. This will probably loosen up though.

All in all a bargain of a pistol IMHO.

cslinger,
Is the mill work on the internal metal surfaces as rough on the P-01 as on the other CZs? That is the one thing that really turned me off to the CZ75 that I had. :(

Well it's no SIG as far as that goes and the mill work is a bit rough but not too bad.

I am a SIG guy. I say this not to bash anybody's else's brands or claim that SIGs are better than any other gun etc. I only say this because SIGs are what I tend to compare other firearms too. Like my P7M8 is in a class above my SIGs while my Ruger P97 is in a class below. That is not a dig on Ruger just a personal observation, price not withstanding on both.

To me the P01, which is my first CZ, is an exceedingly well made, accuarate and reliable pistol at a price point that is downright cheap. Now I think some of that cheap price comes at the cost of fit and finish, appearance and little things like phillips head grip screws. If I compare the CZ to any of my SIGs based on this the SIGs are leaps and bounds ahead.

But if I put in cost as a factor combined with the fact that both firearms are designed to be rough and tumble utilitarian Military and police weapons then the P01 compares very favorably to my SIGS.

I will use my P225 to compare the two since they are roughly the same size, caliber and appearance.

Neither have ever had a malfunction.

The P01 has a better trigger, YES I SAID THAT A CZ HAS A BETTER TRIGGER THAN ONE OF MY SIGS. GO FIGURE. It is however not as good as my 239 or 220 triggers.

The P01 is more accurate in my hands while shooting with the sights.

The P225 is more accuracte as a point shooter for me.

The fit and finish on my 1988 P225 is very very good. Slide to frame is very tight, the frame shows no where, but the slide shows a decent amount of holster wear. The P01 is too new for me to make a call but so far slide to frame is very tight and the poly finish seems very durable, although I don't like how it feels.

Mill work is much better on the P225.

The P225 has those cool German proof marks and snob appeal to spare.

The P01 is only slightly less comfortable to hold then my P225. I don't like the vertical cuts in the frontstrap. But all in all they are close.

The P01 is a much better value. Came with tools, snap caps, cleaning supplies etc. all for a better price. Those little touches make for nice attempt to show customer service.

The SIGs magazines are much better finished and feel much more substantial. I have no complaints with functioning with either but the CZ mags just feel cheap.

Basically if somebody came up to me an asked what medium sized 9mm should I buy I would say...a SIG 225,228,229 etc. But if they said they wanted to get the most gun for the money I would most likely say buy a CZ75 variant.

I also have a Ruger P97 that I love but I think CZ makes a much NICER gun for the money. Not necessarily better but nicer.

I have heard of CZ being called the Eastern Eurpoean SIG. I don't know if I would go that far but they sure do seem to put out a very solid product backed up by great customer service and if I could only own one gun and I had to rely on it for my safety I would not feel ill armed with my P01.

But I can be so tactically snobby with my SIGs. Be gone with your Glocks their very presence sickens me and all that.

If you want pictures I would be happy to send you some. I might be able to get some inside the slide shots.

You should have your hands looked at by a credible medical professional! :neener:

Just kidding....some say the 239 is there fav. As a long time Sig liker and CZ lover....they just dont feel "Sig like" to me. A 229-226 is what my hands like.....thats next to my CZ's of course.

The PO1 is a great little gun...IMO, it very well could be one of the best for its style/market of Compact 9mm's. For the price you get one hell of alot of gun. For a CCW, I like its Big Brother more..the PCR/Compact. The light rail is a great thing for a duty/home defense weapon.

CZ's get a little comment now and then about the internal machining marks...but come on guys. CZ in my mind, is right on the mark with this one. As a soon to be ex-machine shop salesman, I know that it takes time=money, to make it perfect and if the part is perfectly machined for proper function..thats all that matters. The internal marks have no effect on its function.
They are beautifully machined where they should be.:neener:

Just my opinion...let er rip...I can take it.
Shoot well

I chose a CZ-75 PCR over a Sig 225 which was priced the same as it was a close-out. Both pistols were new. The fit, finish, grip feel and ability to use hicap mags swayed me to the CZ. Also, I like the position of the controls better on the CZ. THe P-01 and PCR are essentially the same except for the light rail on the P-01. Price was not an issue in my decision and I stil bought the CZ. Not nocking Sig, just think the PCR/P-01 is that good. The price is just a side benefit.
