Anyone have experience with both or either of these? The Duty (Gen 1) is $50 less than the (Gen 2) P07. However, it looks like the Gen 2 has some upgrades: metal sights, trigger geometry, front slide serrations, smoothed edges, and interchangeable backstraps (might be missing something; still researching). Possible better fit and finish?

The trigger on the usual CZ is kind of far away for my smaller hands. Is the new trigger shape closer than the old one? Also, is the smallest P07 backstrap smaller than the Duty's backstrap?

Kind of want a nice, cheap CC piece with more capacity than my revolver, but thinking in the long run the Gen 2 might be worth it. Thoughts?

Edit: Anyone have any experience using CZ 75 mags in either P07? I'm thinking about using them for range use since they are $20 cheaper than P07 mags.

Also, are there any issues with the regular P07 mags? CZ seems to have downgraded the Gen 2 mags by one round. Did the Duty mags have some issues? I assume they are interchangeable.

Edit 2: Learned some more so have more questions!

I've owned both and enjoyed both; currently have a Gen 2 P-07 that I purchased through David Milam of Cajun Gun Works in LA (well worth it, if interested in the perks he can install). I think a lot of the changes were relatively minor but worthwhile and the change in the magazine capacity was merely a realization by CZ of a more realistic capacity, not a downgrade. I think the Gen 2 is worth the extra money, but I'm not the best judge since I'm a big CZ fan. Overall, the P-07 in either version is an exceptional pistol and I think an excellent value from CZ. It shoots well, has good capacity for its size, and can serve roles as a home defense and CCW weapon, it's that versatile. Hope this helps.

I've handled both, and have owned a non-duty/2nd Gen P07 for a short time. Personally I think it would be worth the $50 bucks over the original.

I had a P09 first (still have it), which led me to want the P07, and having the looks, ergos, feature set, parts match as much as possible is nice too.

Overall, I think the P09 shoots a tad nicer, but that is to be expected given the size difference. I got the P07 for carry.

I maintain these are maybe the best bargain in autopistols on the market. I'd put them up against any other plastic on the market at any price, and the fact that they can be had for $450 makes them the bargain of the year as far as I'm concerned.

That's what I'm thinking. The only thing that holds me back is the cost of magazines.

I have the Gen 2 and love it. I also have smaller to mid size hands and find that the trigger is a little far for me, but keep in mind that you can carry it in the half cocked position, which makes the trigger closer. In that position the trigger is fine.

Don't let THAT stop you. The Canik 2 Stingray Mags from J&G sales are an almost-perfect match. The extend an extra 3/16th of an inch or so, and function just fine. You'll notice that they hold one less round, but that's no big deal. Works out with shipping to about $30 each.

When I last ordered two, here's a copy of part of the invoice.

Sportsman's Guide had the PO7 for $407 or thereabouts, 3 weeks ago. Have not checked since. I almost bought one. But we can't carry in NJ and I already have a 75b, and 3 other 9mm guns.........so didn't "need" it......Like to have one though. Like the sights, build quality, size, and it is a CZ so I know it shoots well.

I know someone will say just buy the $20 springs..but goodness are the P09/P07 DA triggers too heavy. Smooth but impossibly heavy.

Additionally, the SA reset is long.

I liked my P09 gen2, but sold it. I would defiantly buy a gen2 at any price difference just for resale value.

What exactly is the difference between the Duty and P07 mags? Was there something wrong with the Duty mags?

Walt, would you consider the Canik mags reliable enough to conceal carry? Also, have you tried CZ75 mags in the gun?

Does anyone think any issues could crop up with using Canik or CZ75 mags in the P07?

Also, anyone have jamming issues with either model? Nutnfancy's review of the Duty mentions multiple failures to go into battery with two different pistols.

The only UNRELIABLE mags I've ever had were very, very cheap ones (like some RAMLINES I picked up for $3 each, year ago from CDNN) or used ones with worn springs. If they lock in place and function properly when tested at the range, they're typically good to go.

The Ramlines worked beautifully for a long time, but when the spring died, so did the mag: the coil spring which rolled up under the follower had one end riveted to the follower, and the other end riveted to the top of the rear of the mag tube. Innovative, but not repairable.)

I have used the Canik mags in both my Sphinx SDP and the P-07 without issues. I wouldn't hesitate to use them in any role -- but would probably use the factory mags first for carry, primarily because they look better in the gun-- not because they function better. Others have used them with the P-07, too, so I'm not the first to suggest their use.

CZ factory full-size mags will work too, but look ugly -- but as a back-up mag for carry, make good sense. Never have figured out why CZ went that "different" mag route with the P-07 and P-09... I think (but haven't checked) the CZ compact mags are too short for the P-07. I still have a CZ compact mag somewhere, but couldn't find it just now to verify that it doesn't fit the P-07.

(The Canik mags are a cheaper alternative to the Sphinx SDP mags, too... and "factory" CZ compact mags will fit properly, if you have the right base plate or can adjust the base plates so that they let the mags lock tight in the SDP grip. I don't remember whether I had to "thin" down the top of the plastic base of the CANIK mags to make them work in the SDP or not... but it's not a big deal.)
