If you saw my previous post, you know I bought my first gun last week. I took it to the range today so I thought you might like to see pictures and know how I liked it, so this is like a mini review. I think it will contain some original points that about the gun I haven't seen elsewhere.

I chose the P07 because I liked the size and feel. I wanted a shooter to learn with but not a full size gun. It also needed to be fairly inexpensive. I knew CZ was a good company and I just thought it looked cool (though the first time I saw it I thought it was hideous. It is much sweeter after you pick it up). I picked up a LNIB one in the A779 serial range.

Some of the best features of the pistol are its ergonomics. The controls are flat and large, which make them really easy to use but not too bulgy like a PX4. I thought the decocking lever was easier to use than the SIG style. When you decock it, the hammer falls to the half cock position, which is also a nice safety feature (if you slip while racking the slide or cocking the hammer, it won't hit the firing pin). There is also a firing pin safety. The slide is low profile, and from what I can tell the barrel axis is lower than say a SIG or Berretta, probably about the same as a glock. I couldn't really compare whether the slide was harder to rack the slide than something else, I find it easy enough but without the excellent serration I think it would be a problem. The slide is only 1 1/16 of an inch thick, and the ambi decockers add .3-.4 inches, so it really isn't that bulky, especially considering the grip is noticeably thin. Compared to a Glock, IIRC, that makes it the same width without the controls.

One thing that is notable is that there are indeed steel slide inserts that the slide rides in rails. In fact the slide doesn't even really interlock with the polymer frame at all, just slides into the steel inserts, which are located in the middle and rear. The mags drop free.

I'm really like the trigger. The first p07 I handled in a store a few months ago had a really gritty trigger. This disappointed me since I liked the looks and feel of the gun otherwise. Fortunately when I found one again, it had the smooth trigger I've read about so much. I'm a new shooter so I can't really demonstrate its accuracy, but the test target it came with had an extreme 4 shot spread of just over 2" at 25m, which is pretty good as I understand.

After taking it to the range, I was able to confirm I got a good one, since it had no failures. When I bought it the paint was flaking off the rear sight already, a problem I was familiar with. The only other issue is that the gun failed to lock back twice on the range. It only happened with the new mag and only when I was shooting some Corbon +p JHP, although I can't confirm that it wasn't user error since I was experimenting with different grips. The plastic is pretty flexy, but as long as its functions well i'm not worried about it, so I wouldn't call it a flaw. It would be interesting to see whether you can squeeze both sides of the grip together without it breaking, but I'm not willing to abuse my gun.

Nice review, thanks for the report. I'm waiting till the OD green ones start shipping to take the P07 plunge. I've owned a CZ75b & a 97b for years, love the CZ's!

Most of the polymer guns look like a brick, but still function. One reason I prefer the steel, and aluminum alloy guns from CZ, and other makers.

However, I like the P-07, and would get one in a heartbeat.
