So, I've had an SP01 w/manual safety for a number of years and love it. Recently I've had a jones for a Shadow 2 but frankly can't justify the acquisition under current budget constraints.

Is there a way to bring the SP01 trigger to about the same performance as that of the Shadow 2? My SP01 already has a CGW "old-style" trigger and trigger spring so anything that would work well with those components would be helpful. I am quite interested in the CGW "Standard Package" (used to be the Defensive Carry package) and wonder if that might not do the trick. I don't need the reach reduction of the "Pro Package."

I realize that the SP01 will retain the firing pin safety with the above kits. I don't know if it's possible or even advisable to remove it, and as such it will never get to true equality with the Shadow 2. That said, if I can get to 80% or 90% the same, it might keep me happy (for a while).

Any info appreciated. Thanks!

I did an SP01 shadow with the cgw pro kit and it's nicer than a box shadow 2. Not sure how the firing pin block would affect things. I kept my factory shadow hammer but the SP01 might benefit more from the Cajun hammer. The reach reduction, which I needed badly, also makes the reset very short and is a good upgrade for that alone. Does your trigger have the 2 adjustment screws? Also the 11.5# hammer spring has lit anything I've fed it so far.
I think a cajunized sp01 would be 110% of a stock shadow 2.

I would go with the pro package with the T4 disco, not the reach reduction kit disco.
The T4 doesn't have the reach reduction but has more SA take up. reduced

By removing the FPB you can achieve a near zero take up in the trigger. You now have range only gun.

The only difference between those guns is the FPB and comp hammer.

A CGW SP01, I would rate at about stock Shadow 2..

My CGW S2 will put most 1911s to shame.

Interesting info. I will be retaining the FP safety, I see no reason to remove it and introduce (even more) liability into the equation. Like I said, if I can get the trigger on my SP01 to be a close equivalent to a stock Shadow 2 I'll be pretty happy - but I still would like to be able to use it for home defense etc.

Any others want to weigh in?

The ultra lite kit from CGW will get you pretty darn close. I did it to a 75 and couldn’t really tell much difference.

Rittmeister,

Here's an old post from 2019 that I made regarding the 85 Combat (essentially an ambidextrous 75B without the FPB) and the CGW parts. I believe what I've done to my 85 Combat is essentially what the Pro Kit would do except for the SAO conversion.

I've posted this before, but I can't say enough about some of the CGW mods for the 75-based guns. I'm also a fan of the 85 Combat, and think that the reason the 85 Combat didn't outsell the 75B was because people didn't know what the differences were. I liked the 85 Combat stock, but then I made it really outstanding with the following changes:

CGW 54460 Ultra-Lite Kit using the range hammer spring (very noticeable improvement in DA and also SA trigger, plus very easy to rack the slide. Racking the slide wasn't a problem, but now it's just much lighter)
CZ Pre-B short trigger reset
CGW 6-SAO trigger
CGW Race Hammer Kit
CGW floating trigger pin

It has an excellent, light and creep-free trigger, essentially no camming back before firing, and very short trigger reset (the trigger operates fore and aft within less than the thickness of the trigger at the mid-point)

Last weekend I checked out a new CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow Orange. The gun felt great, I'd love to have one, I'm sure it's a great shooter, but the action and the trigger are NOT as nice as my 85 Combat configured as described above. The Shadow trigger has about 3x the amount of camming back that the CGW-equipped 85 Combat does. And the Combat trigger is lighter, and resets shorter.

All that said, I someday want to get an SP-01 because I want a rail for a CT Green Laser on a full-size, metal, CZ 75-based gun.

I've since acquired the SP-01. I intend to install the Pro Kit in it, but haven't done it yet because I've been spending my gun fund money on other things.

I believe you would be very happy with the Pro Kit in the SP-01.
