In the battle of the eastern European guns with initials for names under 500$ Which one is best and why?
You can compare any two models from each as long as they are the same caliber.
Hope this will be educational.~Nathan

It's almost like apples and oranges.

Most CZ pistols are traditional DA/SA, exposed hammer, all-metal semiautos. When it comes to shooting, I prefer them. 75, P01, 97, I like them all.

The XD is a tupperware striker pistol. It's a great carry gun, shoots okay. The first one I tried, I hated. 4" barrel on plastic frame with a crappy trigger. But then I tried a later production version with an improved trigger and a 5" barrel, and it was pretty nice, so I have changed my mind. I keep my mind open when possible.

They're both good guns, for their intended purposes. It would be hard to say which is "better."

CZ vs. XD is a bit like

comparing apples and oranges. I have examples of both in 9mm (XD-9/ns; CZ85C, CZ SP-01) and like both very much indeed. But they are different pistols. The XD has a good DA-style trigger, in my opinion is much more ergonomic than Glock, and is wonderfully reliable. My XD-9 has fine, service pistol accuracy.
Before some spring-swapping, my CZ85C was not so reliable (and too little experience with the SP-01 to compare) but has even better ergonomics and - in my hands - better accuracy.
I shoot all of these pistols frequently and for purely esthetic reasons slightly prefer CZ. But like many other things, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

As others have said. This is an apples to oranges comparison.

To me the CZ wins hands down. They are a proven design that will last 50,000 rounds. The 75 series offers everything that you need. 75B Fullsize, &5 Compact, 75 PCR, etc...

The CZ is much more versatile. If you get a CZ 75B you can carry cocked and locked of DA/SA. The CZ line is steel or alloy in the case of the PCR.

Don't forget about the P01 and SP01. They have great ergonomics and are great shooters.

XD just doesn't do it for me. They are nice but I just don't like the fact that the stricker is held under full tension. I have not heard of any going off but it makes me un easy. I am also just not a big fan of tactical plastic.

In the end they are both fine weapons. It is really a matter of preference not one being superior to the other universally.

The last final pitch I will make for the CZ is that they are cheaper. I can get a 75B or 85B foor $385 OTD. Compacts can be had for $350 and PCRS for $400. It is getting harder and harder to get an XD under $450.

Yeah - it depends what you want.

Very light, high capacity carry pistol? I've already got a Glock 19, but if I didn't I would consider the XD. (I haven't tried any other polymer pistols but I'd be surprised if I liked them as much as the G19 - it fits my hand, I like the trigger feel and reset, I'd prefer 3-dot sights, but it still shoots well and the sights don't bother me enough that I've bothered to change them.)

A nice-looking range gun with some mass to it? That's what I was looking for when I got my CZ P01, but I also considered a Hi-Power and Beretta. I would have preferred a CZ PCR just because it looks nicer, but the P01 was right in the dealer's display case. Actually, the compact CZs aren't that heavy and standard mags hold 14 rounds, so they're also a good choice for carry.

Comparing melons and zuchini. :D

Both are great.

I choose CZ. I like steel/alloy over polymer. The CZ's shoot better to me......much more fun at the range. I prefer DA/SA versus striker fired etc.

Which ever one turns you on.....but I'm convinced that if you spen enough time with them.....you will ultimately decide on the CZ..... a PCR to be exact.....if you are carrying it. :)

I didn't vote. I have both and it is a toss up for me. Both shoot really well. Both are winners. Mark

Im not as familiar with the CZs shot a few, but the XD-9 is real familiar. I "personally" prefer the XD to all the sigs, glock, steyrs, in fact the only 9 I like to shoot more is my p-08 and thats not really a comparison. The guys I shoot with all ran out and got an XD after shooting mine. After hearing all the raves about the CZs I may have to add one or two to the collection as it seems I've been leaving out a brand.

Wow, tough comparison. These two pistols are similar in one very interesting way, they are both the ultimate price/performance pistols on the market. Each can be had for a very reasonable price, and each is very high quality.

However, they are quite different in most other ways.

I think you can break it down to two categories. One - the pistol that fits your hand better/points well...Two - polymer or metal?

Beyond that, they are probably equals on reliability, quality, accuracy etc....

I own several CZs, but I've handled the standard XD9 and the XD9 subcompact and liked them. One think I noticed about the XDs is that they seemed more topheavy than the CZs and was wondering if anyone who's shot one thinks the same thing? I've not shot the XD but it seems to have a higher bore axis than the CZ. I could easily be wrong and would like to hear more from more informed parties!

The XD feels blocky and tall in the hand like a sig but it goes away when the powder starts burning. The grip is designed so that the recoil response seems to feel much lighter because the grip sits pretty low in the hand. The other sort of misleading thing is there is very little weight in the grip and it feels better packed full of rounds. I personally love mine and even the wifey prefers it because of the seemingly lighter recoil:)

Hey ten,
Doesn't always work that way. Got a bud whose p-38 blew apart and god knows its all steel. It all falls under "**** happens":uhoh:

I personally like the xd above all other pistols.
But i preffer polymer over steel.
I preffer striker fired pistols that have a great DAO trigger (xd)
so the xd for me!

i believe the correct answer to this question is "yes."

/me really just wants an xd with a steel frame and a one piece trigger

Hmm a CZ vs. what ammounts to a Glock with a grip safety. I'd say if you want small light and plastic get the CZ 2075. And if you don't want small light and plastic the XD isn't even an option.

I agree that it's apples to oranges. While both are great, I'd have to pick apples, er... CZ, that is.

Possum,
I've been very outspoken about the XD-9 but I do want to make a small clarification. While I LOVE the XD I have many other pistols to include sigs 226 229 2009, hk usp9, ber 92 , taur 101, wals p-99 p-38, lug p-08, sw9e, steyr m-9, starB9, astra 600, steyr 1912, 2CZ-52s(1-9,1-7.62x25), bulg maks 2(1-9x18, 1-.380), p-64mak, broomhandle9, helwan, hell I can't even think of all of them and thats not even talking revolvers .22s longguns etc. I wouldn't keep them if I didn't like them all. The XD is just the one I'd choose if I could only keep one and my life depended on it. The gun that I have the most fun with and app the most is probably my luger but the XD is the machine. I posted before that I didn't have much experience with the cz but I guess I own 2, oops my bad:uhoh: Its not a lie if you don't remember the truth is it?:what:  They don't compare to the new ones so doesn't count anyway.;)

I voted CZ as I prefer traditional single action with thumb safety and metal frames. But the XD is the best of the plastic guns as far as I'm concerned (others might say its the HKs, but IMHO these are way overpriced, but I do like the models with the thumb safety).

I had dismissed the XD until I actually shot one, now I've a pair of the 5" "Tacticals" one in 9mm and the newest in .45ACP.

Both are good buys as far as I'm concerned.

The XD is not DAO, its partially cocked single action like a Glock. On a dud round you need to move the slide back about half an inch to "reset" the trigger before the gun will fire again. The CZ does have a true DA trigger that can be carried cocked and locked. Tap-rack-bank is the correct response to a click instead of bang, IMHO DA brings little to the party in an autoloader unless you want your auto to pretend its a revolver :)

I am a fan of the CZ. Have an older CZ85 made in 1988 and love it. Broke the extractor the other day but otherwise has been flawless for god knows how many rounds. Very accurate with a better S/A trigger than either of my Hi-Powers with better balance. Getting a Tanfoglio "L" model for IPSC PRoduction next month which is a stepped up version of the CZ. Great pistols at a great price.

Take Care

Two very different choices

This is a total apples and oranges comparison. It depends what your intended use is for the gun(s). I did strongly consider the XD when I bought my CZ, though.

For accuracy and price, CZ wins. For reliability and durability, I'd say CZ due to the all steel construction. My CZ has been flawless. But I haven't put a lot of rounds downrange with an XD, either.

For carry, the XD would be lighter due to its polymer frame, but the alloy framed CZs are pretty light, too, and more accurate. I hear the finish on XDs is not too great for carry, though.

One is striker fired, and one is hammer fired. I like how the CZs slide rides inside the frame.

The CZ is cheaper, which means more ammo and practice. The CZ is a more attractive pistol, too. My vote goes to CZ, but I do think the XD is a very good gun that I would gladly accept.
