What options are there for a carrying a CZ52 as a ccw? I have a Kydex belt holster, but that's only concealed if I wear a coat. Does anybody know a better option for carrying a CZ? Is there a better option?, (must have space for extra magazine).

Do you really, really want to carry that?

Couple of serious drawbacks to it..

1. It's nearly (or over) fifty years old...need to keep close tabs on how the locking rollers are wearing down.

2. Overpenetration endangering bystanders. I would think that the extremely fast 7.62x25 round would be far more likely to go right through a BG and keep going with lethal force. Especially if you're using ball.

3. The enormous muzzleflash will utterly destroy your night vision if you had to use it at night, ruining your chances of any followup shots.

4. It's pretty darned heavy for CCW.

Sure that's what you want to do...? If you really want 7.62x25 to carry, (got local gangs who wear level II armor or something?) the Tokarev is a very flat auto and is a simpler Browning sort of action.

What he said.

Carrying it because you've got it isn't a real good reason to carry it.

Its more of a novelty than a serious self-defense (concealed carry) weapon.

For anything from the same amount to just a bit more, you can buy a Star BM, or spend a bit more and get any number of used S&W ex-police guns. More choices in ammo, etc.

I have to agree with these guys. The 52 makes a great car gun, but not such a good CCW. If I am going to carry a gun that is as large and heavy as my 52, it's gonna hold more rounds with more punch (read 15+1 round 10mm).

Somebody else already said Star BMs, but here are a few other budget defense guns.

Bulgarian Makarov - http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=45580360
Taurus Millennium Pro - http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=45442101
Taurus M650 or M85 (actually a revolver, but still worth checking out) - http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/21_50_494/products_id/31866
Kel Tec P3at - http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/21_150/products_id/15229

All of these guns would be easier to conceal then the CZ 52, plus it is ALOT easier to find premium defense rounds for those calibers (with the possible exception of the Mak). And that is just dealing with new (except the Mak). If you don't mind buying used your options get better.

Honestly, though, you would get a lot more handgun for your dollar if you upped your budget to around $300, as that is where most companies price their budget lines at, but I understand that sometimes you just don't have the money.

For <$250, Makarovs, Bersas, and used S&W revolvers are probably the most reliable handguns that you'll find in that range. Used Glocks can usually be found for less than $400. A used SP 101 will be around $300.Your own local market may vary and you might find a good deal on something else.

I carry a makarov, a bulgarian can be had for under $200.

stay away from the P-64 polish "makarov", damn DA pull is absolutely terrible.

Don't overlook the Kel-Tec P-11. Very small, very shootable, once you get used to the long DAO trigger.

And there are any number of police trade-in guns in the $300 range. All good, solid guns. (With those guns, if you ever want to upgrade, you can generally sell them for what you have in them.)

The new (not an old used one) Taurus Millenium Pros are fine, reliable and accurate guns. And "inexpensive but not cheap"....with the new 24/7 and Milleniums, they're like the Honda/Acura of the handgun market now, I think. :D
