I've got a friend who purchased a DAO P226, which is the reason he got it at a really low price. After shooting my P228, he preferred the DA/SA mechanism on mine. It would take some work, but is there any way to make a DAO gun DA/SA? It seems to be designed around the DA/SA frame as it looks like it is missing the decocker (none in the place where it would usually be).

What would this cost to do (if possible without extensive modification), or is there an easy way to lighten the trigger pull and reduce travel?

Here are the parts you will need. If I remember right they will run you around $150.

•Hammer
•Hammer Strut Pin
•Decocking Lever
•Decocking Lever Spring
•Decocking Lever Bearing

Thanks for all the help on this. I was able to find everything listed on Top Gun Supply for around $75 after shipping.

-edit-

I was looking at the wrong item, but I found the hammer strut pin alright. However, I still have a similar question...

What differentiates a "new style" and an "old style" P226? I posted the same question in another thread regarding my P228.

And lastly, how difficult is this project to tackle yourself?

cchris. I believe the difference between the new style and the old style lies in the hammer strut assy. I'm trying to track down info on that myself.

Top Gun has an armorers video for about $20. Its very well done, and well worth the money. It walks you through a total tear down and reassembly of most P series SIG's.

if you're asking for the difference in hammer assemblies... the newer set has a shorter strut/mainspring and there is a mainspring "boot" as opposed to the flat metal "seat". you can change to the newer mainspring on an older gun, but you'd have to modify the grip panels too.

if you're talking about the difference between the pistols...it is the slide assemblies. one is folded, the other is milled

i figured out what I needed. The new style hammer strut assy. is shorter, had a plastic "lowercase t" shaped shoe that compresses the spring, rather then the L shapped piece of sheet metal on the older model.

What wesn't clear was in the old style decocker and trigger bar springs work with the new style grips that go with the new syle hammer strut/grips.

I'll assemble them today to see how it goes.
