I assume you and your Dad were wearing masks when you stole that rifle? lol
the friend my dad got the rifle from was raised in the city, I like when he tells the story's of him going to gun shops/ department stores as a kid. Often walking home with it in his arms lol.I think the first time I saw a Krag was on a rack at Macy's in Manhattan. Yes they, and quite a few others you wouldn't think of, sold guns at that time in NYC.
Was about 12, picked it up, and was intrigued by the side loading action. Always thought they were cool.
Good luck with yours!
My first rifle, a Marlin 80DL in .22, was purchased at Modell's on Broadway at Chambers St. in lower Manhattan. I was 12, we took the subway home from there, me carrying the rifle.the friend my dad got the rifle from was raised in the city, I like when he tells the story's of him going to gun shops/ department stores as a kid. Funny I think my dads buddy for his first at that modells. I've heard him talk about kafmans. My first rifle, a Marlin 80DL in .22, was purchased at Modell's on Broadway at Chambers St. in lower Manhattan. I was 12, we took the subway home from there, me carrying the rifle.
They also had a dump counter of Carcano's at the time, $8 each. Thrown together like firewood, too covered with Cosmoline to consider touching.
A few blocks west of there on Vessy St., where the World Trade Center would sit, was Kaufman's Surplus. I recall a barrel full of Martini Cadets there at $11.
The real Abercrombie & Fitch was still in business back then, almost an entire block wide, 8 floors high, of sporting goods, with an entire floor of just guns.
I definitely learned my lesson. I still keep the claim check in my wallet as a reminder to not be so stupid in the future. I received one call in all that 8 months and it was to check and see if I wanted him to throw in bases and rings for an extra $80 to which I said sure. The $460 bill threw me... if I wanted to spend $600+ I would buy a nice remington or Winchester, not a sporter'd surplus rifle I initially paid $100 for.OUCH! Hopefully, since then you have always gotten all such agreements in writing.
Today me and my dad stoped at a friend's house, I got my old h&a under hammer back. Dad asked if he had anything he's getting ride of. Friend said just a old krag, dad said get it. My dad asked how much after he brought it out, he said $200 my dad said he didn't have that much so he said what ever he had in his pocket.
So dad pulled out his walet, one of them old trucker ones with the chain. Came out to be $141 his friend said it's yours. Over all its a nice little sporter, looks to be a fairly new weaver side mount. Just a no name scope.
Looking it over there a tiny Nick on the crown, that will be no problem to fix. Has a descent bishop stock bore looks just fine. I would have over bid dad but the money in my pocket is for someone else.
Just have to pick up some brass, we got all the other stuff. Hope it shoots would make a nice deer rifle. Shame it's sported I'd rather it was left alone.
I told dad we need to keep a eye out for a nice k4 weaver for it.

He said if he did take the $141 it was mine, but I didn't have to. And tall the money in my pocket is going to a new ar barrel.NEVER OVER-BID YOUR OWN FATHER ON A GUN!!! GOD WOULD GET YOU FOR THAT!!! All your rifles would probably shoot lousy...maybe even blow up!!!

I do have a greedy older brother but he ain't getting any.You must not have greedy brothers like some of us are blessed with.
Should somebody warn your brother to get a food taster or what?I do have a greedy older brother but he ain't getting any.
6 years and an idiot. He is the one that thinks bullets expand before they hit the target after all.Your older brother must be a lot older-and infirm to boot.
He's always on his high horse, but it's more like a miniature pony.Should somebody warn your brother to get a food taster or what?
Not trying to be your 'dad' but in NY? Are private sales w/o a BGC legal in NY? Between non family members? I'd be careful about posting this stuff on a public place..if I'm all wet, oh well.
Sorry about your dad, I call mine every day. It will be tuff when I can't.Thank you for sharing Troy. Good deal! Excellent shape rifle. sounds like you & your dad have a tight bond and you love him a lot. Great thing to hear in this world. My dad was a good friend to. He passed away just a few weeks ago. I miss talking to him.
I hope what you said about your brother was just normal sibling rivalry. I’ll tell you this, no one will have your back like your blood. It’s stronger than any friendship can be...aside from the bond between husband & wife can be. If there is trouble, I hope you & your brother can’t mend the relationship. I’ll pray for you both.

As far as I'm concerned the "safe act" is unconstitutional , I know better tho. This squirt gun" mine as well call it that" is a antique and was purchased out of state.I’ve actually created threads in several forums to NOT DO THAT! For instance, don’t be the guy who sees someone with a suppressor in the range, and yell out for EVERYONE to hear, “HEY...do you have a TAX STAMP for that silencer!?“ Or sees a “possible” SBR, and once again blurts our, “Ya know....SBR’s are an FFL class 3 item! Is THAT a SHORT BARREL RIFLE you have there!?”
Guys like this, act as though they are helping... But it’s disingenuous. People like this are unconscious FRIENDS to the BATF & the LEFT!
Don’t be one of those guys! If you just have to feel self righteous, keep it private.
