Dad bought me a Centerpoint.

Yep, the turret rings. The 3-9 has screw-on caps. the 16 and the 24 power scopes use locking rings on the turrets.

Constructive comments, I hope

Here's my humble little feedback on the 4-16 CenterPoint.

I have scopes from $15 no-name chinese cheapies, to a Zeiss Conquest and a Nikon Monarch and a 4200 Elite. The CenterPoint ain't no premium scope, that's for sure. But for the $$ it is a very good buy. If you're in the market for a cost-saving scope, I say give it a try. My experience:

Con:
-I find it harder to acquire the sight picture quickly, it takes a moment for the eye to settle down and get the picture, where premium scopes (like the three listed above) open up to the eye instantly.
-The outside 1/3 of of the glass isn't so sharp when the center is clear and focused.
-And I surely find some fogginess in the picture as the sun rises or drops low on the horizon when aiming a little less than right angle to the sun (no, don't aim directly into the sun, boys).

Pro:
It truly holds zero on a 30-06. Can't complain about that, no you sure can't complain about a sight system that stays on zero.
When I adjust the AO focus for range it surely does its job to eliminate parallax error.
I find the turrets to be intuitively easy to use once you read the description and understand it.
And the tube must be straight because it mounted quickly and easily without distress in premium rings (Leupold half-dovetail on one-piece mount).

So I say it's worth the money. For a non-premium scope, I'm happy with a good low-cost purchase. If you're happy with it, everyone else can go hang themselves.

Just a quick update, I bought the the centerpoint 2-7x32. I have had it out to the range on my saiga 5.45x39 for the last two weekends (300 rounds through it) and I'm really impressed thus far. It seems well made and solidly constructed. For the $62 otd I paid for it I'm satisfied. I agree with ants
The outside 1/3 of of the glass isn't so sharp when the center is clear and focused
but for the $$$ I can live with it!

The feature set of this scope is pretty difficult to compete with, but optically there are better scopes available, even in it's price range. Is it worth it to give up the features and magnification for the better glass?...you decide.

My experience with the Centerpoint 4-16x40mm is a bit spotty...a while back I placed one on a .17HM2 and it did well for a while, but I took it out one day and noticed the zero was off (wasn't bumped that I am aware of), when trying to correct for it I noticed that there was insufficient adjustment range to make the necessary correction in both windage and elevation. Something was out of alignment inside. I returned it for exchange and the new one has worked well since that time period (several months). Did I get a lemon?...possible, but I don't know for certain. I don't hold a great deal of faith in it, but I won't recommend against it either. In fact I think it is a pretty decent target scope or mixed use scope (the locking target turrets making it good for hunting as well) for a rimfire rifle. I wouldn't use mine on a centerfire rifle, nor am I likely to buy another, but like I said the first one could have just been a lemon.
