Was about to go to Wally world and look at the Nikon scopes they have in stock. I stopped by my dads house because it is on the way there. When I got there he said "I got somethin for you." Big smile on his face. I said "Ok, what is it dad?" Then he disappeared into the next room, and came back with a Centerpoint 4-16x40mm scope. He said "I bought one for me last week, and you are goin to love it!" So tomorrow him and I are goin to the range to test it out. I hope it is better than that B-ull S-hat A-ccessories scope I had on it before. Then again dad has never once lied to me, or really been wrong in the decisions I have seen him make. I'll take his word for it. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

I have a 4-16x Centerpoint on my 308, and love it. People who have actually owned and used the 4-16x have nothing but good to say about it. Those who never owned one or have only used the Centerpoint 3-9 will dog it based soley on it's price and place of manufacture. Don't worry about the latter group because they are just jealous. Now go mount it and post pics of your groups! :)

I am goin to post pics of my gun with the scope mounted, and groups shot with it as well. I can not wait.:D

Centerpoints; not great but good- supposedly rated up to 416 rigby for recoil.
Not the clearest at the edges, but a very serviceable scope. I have one myself on a spring piston air rifle, that is a fixed 4x. Could they be better? sure, but for the money, they are double tough to beat.

I've got one and like it.

Really like the focus for cutting out parallax at shorter ranges and the resettable zero is very nice.

I have a CP 4-16x40 on my 15/22 which i choose to use over my $200 Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40 which sits on my 93BTV .17hmr

Your dad is a good judge of a scope, On my new .22lr Bolt action im buying to replace my 15/22 as my accuracy gun to shoot against my .17 im buying another CP 4-16x40 for it also.
For me to like it better than a scope 3x its price the scope is a joy to use, You will see.

Just tell you dad "thanks"!

I don't own a rifle with a Centerpoint scope... I have several friends who have theirs on everything from a 22.250 to a 358 Win mag. None have ever skipped a beat to my knowledge and all are all still on the rifles they were bought for. I think its a good scope for the $$$. I have seen a couple of their higher end scopes and they are REALLY nice with etched glass reticles and such...

While the optics (glass) are good for the $$$ = $69) They aren't as clear as Nikons etc. But they are built like tanks and will hold zero etc. It's one of the few under $100 scopes I trust. FYI I have two of these...one one a 30-06 the other on a 308.

Here we go again with the "Made in China?" Not to be rude but just about all the glass your going to buy is made in either China and Japan. Do the research. If not China, Japan, or Taiwan. The Nikon I was looking at were marked "Made in Japan." Another Nice scope I looked at, a Leupold, stamped "Made in China." (Older Leupolds I have seen are stamped "Made in the USA" not anymore though) Cheaper Bushnells are usually made in China, while the Elite version are made in Japan. Look up the one I didn't post, then look up were there lenses were made. It is good knowledge to have if your wanting to stay away from China stuff. To me though, I have been quite satisfied with my "China made crap," that all of us use on a daily basis. They do make some fine products, but yes they do have quality control issues. What I know from looking at the reviews of this scope is that it is great for the price. I have seen many people say they would have paid at least double for it. The kicker for me is that my dad was very impressed which is hard to do. (he is anti-china junk too) So impressed that he bought another for me. (His still favorite scope is his Zeiss, but that is the toughest competitor for any scope.)

i have one of the 4x16's on an ar-15. i bought it as temporary scope until i find a used leupold at a good price but so far it's worked very well.
i do know a guy who got a defective cp 4x16 but so far its the only one i've heard of. the elevation turrent on it was broke

I have four of the 4 X 16's.... two of them on .308's..... they hold zero and work just fine for the general plinking and target shooting I do.....

Buying "Made in a America" is great except the part where it increases the costs dramatically. My Nikon Buckmasters is made in the Philippines.
I dont think anyone will argue China made stuff can be horrible no matter what they make, But they do get some stuff right.
They do have a great lifetime warranty so if you do have an issue it usually ends up you get a new scope from what i read.

My only not so perfect thing i dont like about the scope is the eye relief and forgiveness of it could be better. My Nikon is either your ON or OFF with the reticle, But the CP can go blurry or give partial sight pictures at times. This isnt an issue if you have it mounted perfectly to your eye positions, But when i switch to sand bag benchrests it can take a bit of neck movement to get the right picture.
But its not the worst ive seen either.

I'm thinking of putting a Centerpoint 2-7x32 on a saiga IZ240 that I just picked up. Initially I was thinking of a russian FED 1.5x4.5...but its $110 more than the centerpoint. I figure I would be better off tossing in an extra $10 (plus the $110 savings) and buy another spam can of surplus 5.45x39;)

wnycollector- Ive heard mixed reviews of the 2-7x32 but its worth a try as you can return it, But id definitely pay the $15 more for the 4-16x40.
I know mines more than usable at 50' and less even with higher than 4x magnification since you have parallax adjustment.

In the short term. Wait until you get the long-term bill and then we'll discuss the real costs of saving a few bucks now.

Im not worried about that, Ill let my kid worry about it.

Dont blame the consumers, Blame the companies and the Government for creating situations where it was better to do business there.

You probably hate Wal-mart also?

Id say we don't garbage up the OP's thread over an item made in China, The product works excellent at a very low price.

DasFriek, your post is an exemplary sample of how to make snide comments and offhanded insults while pretending to care that the thread remains on topic. If you'd care to discuss it further, bring it to PM.

What did I say in post number 2? oh yeah here it is:
Those who never owned one or have only used the Centerpoint 3-9 will dog it based soley on it's price and place of manufacture.
If you never owned a CP 4-16 and are just upset because it is made in China, who cares? Ain't like you ever even looked through the glass, so why is your opinion so valuable? Does it provide first hand insight? Have you shot a rifle with the CP 4-16 mounted? Or did you just see "made in China" and keep walking?

I don't, And i wont.
From this point on ill only speak about how the CP scopes work and handle as per my initial intentions.
Yeh im not sure why i read why people didnt like the AR22 which is the 2-7x32 iirc, But i did read some liked them just as well.
If you have a small and lite gun it would be worth a try. But for me id Pay $15 more and get the larger scope.
They have higher grade scopes http://www.crosman.com/optics/riflescopes like the Power Class and LT1 which you start hitting Nikon and Leupold prices and ill be the first to admit i wont buy a CP that cost that much.

I've got two. 3-9 on my Marlin model 60 and a 4-16 on my Savage 22mag. Now I don't want anything but mildots!

The 4-16 drove me crazy until I figured out it was way outta the sight picture until you locked down the adjustment rings. I'm not sure if it would've held zero with a little more or less twist on the lockdowns so i modified the mount so it would shoot zero with the adjusment unlocked and I leave it that way. Took awhile but now atleast I feel confident of my zero.

Mike--what do u mean by "locking down the adjustment rings"? Do u mean the lock rings on the turrets or the scope mounting rings?
