Daley dose of Federal Indictment Avoidance

55645,
Don't be so negative. This isn't a hit even with the leaders of Blagojevich's own party. My state rep, Curt Grandberg is House Majority Leader:

1/19/06 Area Legislators Express Concern with Governor's Speech

State Senator John O. Jones and State Representative Kurt Granberg have some differing opinions on the governor's State of the State Address.

Granberg says the governor reminded lawmakers that he took office facing a record $5 billion budget deficit, but has still increased funding for education without raising the sales or income tax.

But Jones says the state is swimming in debt after raiding the pension systems of $1.2 billion and borrowing $1.1 billion to pay remimbursements to medical providers. He says the governor's different way of doing things is the equivalent of maxing out of the state's credit cards.

Jones says he could support a new capital spending bill, but notes the governor still has not contacted the Republican leadership to discuss what projects would be included and how to pay for the plan.

Representative Granberg says the governor's speech did raise some concerns with him. He objects to the governor's renewed push for a state ban on certain guns as well as a stepped-up plan to reduced mercury emissions. Granberg worries the governor's proposal to reduce mercury emissions by twice as much of the federal plan could lead to the closure of coal-fired power plants, meaning the loss of job and inexpensive electricity.

Granberg says did like the governor's proposals for tax credits for freshman and sophomores in college and those who purchase fuel-efficient cars.

This is far from a done deal.

I think it's rather funny, they obviously don't intend to enforce it. The writers made a fiscal impact statement that said:

http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/bil...DocTypeID=HB&LegID=17433&SessionID=50#actions
Fiscal Note (H-AM 2) (Dept. of Corrections)
Corrections Population Impact: 1 Inmate. Fiscal Impact: $296,000.

Here are the current sponsors of the bill:

Rep. Edward J. Acevedo - Monique D. Davis - Karen A. Yarbrough - Harry Osterman - Barbara Flynn Currie, Linda Chapa LaVia, Deborah L. Graham, Sara Feigenholtz, Mary E. Flowers, Richard T. Bradley, Joseph M. Lyons, Michelle Chavez, Charles E. Jefferson, Elizabeth Coulson, Kathleen A. Ryg, Cynthia Soto, William Delgado, Susana A Mendoza, Maria Antonia Berrios, Kenneth Dunkin, Milton Patterson, Calvin L. Giles, Eddie Washington, Constance A. Howard, William Davis, Arthur L. Turner, John D'Amico, Elaine Nekritz, Marlow H. Colvin, Jack McGuire, George Scully Jr., Julie Hamos, Wyvetter H. Younge, Robin Kelly, James D. Brosnahan, Daniel J. Burke, Annazette Collins, Robert S. Molaro, Karen May and Larry McKeon

If any of these is your rep, make your displeasure known. All of the co-sponsors are Democrats, all but a couple are from the Chicagoland area. Only one is from Southern Illinois and she's from East St Louis. I don't think they can make this happen without the collar county republicans. Wyvetter Younge is the only Southern Illinois Democrat who will vote for this.

The House will not be in session again until Monday the 24th. It looks like the strategy is to keep it on the calendar until they think they have enough votes to pass it. The current deadline is March 3, 2006. I'm sure that if they don't have the votes by then, they will send it back to the Rules Committee and extend the deadline again. We may be stuck fighting this one until the 94th Session ends.

Jeff

Thanks Jeff. I feel a lot better. This is the only place to get positive reinforcement.

Blagojevich: "I'm the only one in the room professional enough to add Keno games."

You made me register just to "ROFL!!!!" that.

At least according to his office staff that answered, my state rep is against hb2414 and will vote accordingly. But i have to tell you, every year that passes, the collar counties become more democratic as people move out of the city to the suburbs. Districts are drawn by the people in charge. And although people out of state won't believe it, Daley IS king of illinois. He who controls the territory north of I80 and east of route 47 controls the state. And unfortunately, only those actually living in chicago can vote out our overlord.

And have you all heard the MP3 of the daley/blagojevich, talking about using a .50 cal from the hancock building? Everybody knows who daley routes for (even if he lives on the north side). Compare and contrast the number of shots fired into wrigley field vs the number of shots fired into new comiskey park.

The whole think makes you wonder if blago knows he isn't going to get reelected. One final coup de gras, like ryan's pardoning of death row inmates. There's too many men, too many people, making too many problems. And not much love to go round. Can't you see this is the land of corruption? And i'm the only one in the room professional enough to add keno games :D

Well I don't see advocating more gun control doing anything but hurting Blagojevich. The St Louis Post Dispatch just released this poll data. Even though gun control wasn't a question in the poll, it will give us an idea about how the people feel about Blagojevich.

Illinois Survey Results | January 2006

01/21/2006

The Research 2000 Illinois Poll was conducted from January 16-January 18. A total of 800 likely voters who vote regularly in state elections were interviewed statewide by telephone for the Post-Dispatch and KMOV-TV (Channel 4).

Those interviewed were selected by the random variation of the last four digits of telephone numbers. A cross-section of exchanges were utilized in order to ensure an accuratereflection of the state. Quotas were assigned to reflect the voter registration of distribution by county.

The margin for error, according to standards customarily used by statisticians, is no more than plus or minus3.5 percentage points. This means that there is a 95 percent probability that the “true” figure would fall within that range if the entire population were sampled. The margin for error is higher for any subgroup, such as for
gender or party affiliation.
