PLEASE DO NOT CONFUSE DAPS (WHO IS PUTTING ON THIS EVENT) WITH OUR GROUP DTAS (DALLAS TARGET & ACTION SHOOTERS)

To sign up, please RSVP for the event via the website calendar on this page: http://www.dallaspist... in advance and email [masked]. You will receive an e-mail confirming your registration. RSVP'ing yes here does NOT secure your spot for the class

Cost:

* DAPS member cost is $50

OK, I'm confused.?

Hi Jmorris - sorry for any confusion.

We are the Dallas Target & Action Shooters Group, or DTAS. There is NO membership dues to be part of our group. It costs me about $500/year to run the group and web site, so I do ask at just one event - our monthly range day - that people consider donating just $2. It is not required in any way.

Some of our events we put on, some we work with other organizations to put on. In the case of the event you quoted, it's the DAPS or Dallas Action Pistol. To my knowledge they only do competitions. DAPS does have dues and membership fees.

An example is we are going to the Dallas Pistol Club this Sunday for their Metal Mania steel shoot. There will be about 16 members from my group making our monthly visit to their event where they charge the $15 event fee, not me.

We are more of a social group that does dinners, has FREE drawings for firearms related stuff, range days, trainings, competitions, go to gun shows together, etc.

Hope that makes sense. Please always feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Again, here is the link to our group with a brief overview: Dallas Target & Action Shooters (DTAS)

Shooting Clubs

Just to add to the confusion, "DAPS" and Dallas pistol club are two different organizations also. Dallas pistol club is a private range with yearly membership dues to use their facilities for mostly just pistol shooting, you can shoot 22 rifles there but no other caliber rifles are allowed. When you become a member you are assigned a gate code and can go in and shoot anytime during the day, because of city ordinance, no shooting is allowed after dark. The web site for Dallas pistol club is:

http://www.dallaspistolclub.com/

DAPS is a IDPA club that shoots mostly IDPA matches but sometimes USPSA also. You do not have to be a member to shoot our matches but you do have to belong to IDPA. DAPS web site is:

http://www.dallaspistol.com/DAPS/

You can learn about IDPA at this web site:

http://www.idpa.com/

I am a safety officer for DAPS and look forward to coming out and shooting in some of your events. Any time we can get together and enjoy shooting sports together is a good time.

K. I signed on. looking forward to the first range meet. see you DTAS's soon. Are any of the members, members of the Terrel Rifle & Pistol Club. thats a kick a$$ place. best ive been to, except for the one my grandfather was a member of in Pensacola, Fl. dont even remember the name of it. it was like a country club for shooters

I joined DTAS last month. Unfortunately, I've only got a six gun that I can shoot at DPC. The single action isn't meant for speed drills.
All of my other toys will have to wait for trips to the other ranges.

I have a bunch of family around Terrel (Member of the Terrel Boat Club) but I never knew about the Rifle & Pistol club.

What is it and where is it?

Terrel Rifle & Pistol Club is friggin awesome. i shoot .223 benchrest half the time and they have up to 200 yard lanes and I shoot alot of compatitions with my buddies on the pistol range with .22's to 45 ACP's. TRPC has everything. all types of shotgun shoots. theres a hell of a gunsmith just around the corner (Konings gun shop) its just a great place. theres a $200 membership fee thats good for life, then theres a $100 a year range fee. you get a key to the place and think its sun up to sundown and in some cases after sundown for those nightvision shooters. they have activities damn near every day there. Its a great place for young shooters and beginners too. they will even let you setup your reloading station if its mobile like mine is just in case you are testing loads or giving reloading lessons, just an all around great place all the way around.

I go to a range called Gibsons on Lawson RD in mesquite as well, its an outdoor bench rest range from 25 to 200 yard rifle lanes and also has a pistol range from 50 feet to 25 yards. its cheap, $10 a day, a good place to plink around if you dont want to join the "country clubstyle" Terrell club. I think they make it so much to join to cut down on the ammount of people that join. plus they have alot invested in that place unlike Gibsons. you could build that place for about $3k where as TRPC would cost $200k at liest to build. let me know when you go. ide shoot with ya. Ive got a new Ruger Mark II that is killin me because I havent gotten to shoot it at the range yet and my buddes have Brownel Buckmarks and I want to spank them with my Ruger.

I've shot at Gibsons, Garland, Target Master, and just about every other public range in the DFW area over the last 20 years.
One of the better places I've gone to is the Grand Prairie Gun Club.

Not only is it a pretty nice place to shoot, it's about 10 minutes away from home.
I'm not a member but have a friend who is.

Most ranges don't like my Encore pistol in 460 S&W, 22-250, and 308 Win. GPGC doesn't have any problem with them as long as I follow the rules and don't do anything stupid.

My only other pistol is an original Vaquero in 45 Colt. That's not much fun at a steel plate match. I can only get off a couple shots in the time it take to empty most pistol magazines.

Earbusters?
The Vaquero is a pussycat. It's lotsa fun to plink with. Believe it or not, it's also easy to handle with maximum pressure loads (300gr @ 1300 fps).

I run fake mother of pearl grips on a polished stainless gun. The smooth panels allow the gun to rotate in your hand. It really helps with the hard kicking rounds If you cup your support hand under the grip it's going to get smacked with the pointy rear corner.

shadowboxer, TR&PC is exactly 32 miles east of Down town Dallas on interstate 80. its about 10 miles from my house which is in Forney.
Ill be seeing you all soon.
looking forward to meeting everyone

The site looks great by the way.

We now ALSO receive a discount at Mississippi Auto Arms.

Check out the photos from our pizza social yesterday. Thanks to all 25 people that attended - Sorry I had to limit the size of attendance but the restaurant couldn't hold anymore in that one area:

We've gained 21 members in one week!

We've added pizza social parties, tactical shotgun matches, personal protection competitions, and a Saiga 12 build party to the calendar.

We had 45 people at our monthly range day today!
