Do Dan Wesson 1911s have MIM parts?

How is their reliability and accuracy? How smooth is their finish and slide compared to Kimbers? thanks.

I have no clue as to MIM parts in a Dan Wesson. But fit and finish is excellent. Accuracy is great, I have only shot it out to 25yards. I like the PM1S better than my Custom II, but maybe its just new gun envy.

Wesson use a mish mash of outsource parts.
Mostly they have Ed Brown parts but I have seen basic Pointman pistols with Chip McCormick MiM parts.

depends on the date of manufacture. The older ones used lots of CMC MIM, the newer ones use high quality parts from known manufacturers (e.g., Ed Brown).

Re: Dw

My DW PM7S is the most accurate pistol I've ever shot. Bar none. Fit/finish is superb, very tight tolerances on the slide/frame fit (very smooth). At around $600, it was a steal. Haven't had a Kimber so I can't compare the finishes, but the stainless DW is very very nice.

I've had a Patriot for about two years and 10,000+ rounds. It had a few teething problems, but settled into a ultra reliable workhorse. I clean it rarely and haven't had a malf in probably 6000 rounds. In my opinion, the finish and fitting are better than a comparably priced Kimber, but these are mass produced pistols and they'll vary.

Zak, nice view. A gun with wear on it? I like the patina of use (no safe-queen there).

Dw 1911

I bought a DW "Razorback" - gun had some initial problems, sent it to "Action by T" for his Street Reliability Package".

Excellent work done by Teddy J - excellent gun to start out with.

Love the gun, would recommend DW 1911 to anyone who wants one.

I bought my PM7S from a dealer in Ohio on gunbroker.com I just checked and there are seveal DWs listed on gunbroker.

here's my DW C-Bob and my Kimber pro elite.

The DW has a tighter slide to frame fit.

I bought them both used (from THR trading post as a matter of fact) and I doubt I'll ever part with either of them. Neither has failed to go bang in a combined 1,000 or so rounds (I'm not sure how many on each, but it's probably split pretty evenly). I'm not good enough to tell any difference in offhand accuracy, but my brother got slightly tighter groups with the DW at 15 yards. I've never shot them from a rest, so I can't help there.

anyhow, I'd be happy with either one, but I'm sure glad I don't have to choose.

Howdy, SamlautRanger -
For the MIM info, slide (no pun intended) on over to the 1911 Forum and check MIM in the Dan Wesson Area. There has been use of MIM parts, dfferent parts on different models, over the years.

Accuracy and Reliability? I have a Patriot Expert and this gun is a great shooter. Very capable of shooting tight groups. This particular gun prefers 230gr ball but will run 230gr lead round nose equally as well. 200gr LSWC run OK, but I get an occasional FTB. I am messing around with my OAL on this bullet. I also have a Patriot Commander without the bob-tail. I have around 500 rounds through her and she has processed all loads, 230gr round noses and 200gr LSWC's. Both of my guns are stainless and the fit and finish is excellent.
I do not know how they compare with a Kimber. I have been pleased enough with my Dan Wessons that I haven't given much thought to a Kimber.

Parts/MIM

Who cares? The DW PT-CBOB that I have has mirrored all the others posting here. Shoots great, tighter that a vault, reliable, did I say shoots great. For an out of box, one of the better for the DW, that runs in P42xx range. Very satisfied thus far, only issue I had was lack of materail removal under trigger guard at front strap, and minimal mag well bevel and Dremal took care of that. But would buy again in a heart beat.

I bought a Dan Wesson 'Panther' a few years ago. It's the best $400 I've ever spent.

If ever there was a time and a place for DW to use MIM, it would've have been in my gun. If someone can tell me how to identify a part made by MIM, I'll be happy to strip my 1911 and tell you what I find. Though that prolly wouldn't tell you anything about what's used in current production DW 1911s.

MIM or otherwise, my bottom-of-the-line DW has been an exceptional pistol. Very accurate, perfectly reliable, and when it was new the finish looked far too nice for a $400 gun. I wish I could go back in time and buy another one.
