Dang it! The safe is FULL!

Dang it to heck!

The safe is full again and I want to pick up a nice 222 Rem and a 30 carbine. So either another safe (wife will go ballistic) or I have to cull.

Ok, so I pulled them all out. Can't get rid of the 870, can't get rid of Grampa's goose gun. Got to keep my Precision Target rifles (how would I compete?) Can't get rid of the M1A collection. Need to keep my pre-64 30/30 94's. Have to have a 9422 to plink 22's with. Got to keep the 2506 Sendero. Need the 7-08 BDL to hunt with. Got to keep bro's 22's. Need to keep my Daughter's Mini-bolt (she would never forgive me for selling it before I gave it to her). AAARRRGGHHHH. No more space and I still don't have an AR clone, a triple duece or a 30 carbine!

Any of you all have the same problem and if so how do you get around it?
 
Sort of. I took out the .22 rifle and bolt action rifles and put their bolts in the safe. Need to put the 03A3 back in there though. I just try to make sure there is no useable ammo outside the safe for anything that is not in the safe. Fire could still be an issue I guess. :)
 
I would start moving boxes around the garage, stack them high, maybe through a sheet over the pile. Wait a week and move the boxes around again, stack them high in a slightly different spot and throw a sheet over them. Explain to your wife that you are rearanging the garage, and may build a work bench. Move the pile of boxes again and throw a sheet over it.

Next, I would give a "day at the spa" to your wife. While she is out getting the facial scatter the pile of boxes and have the delivery crew place the new safe where the boxes had been. Throw a bed sheet over it. Your wife may never notice, after all, its just a big pile of old boxes in the garage.

That's too funny... I read this to the little lady and she said that if she hadn't heard it, I might actually have gotten to pull this off... :eek: :rolleyes:

oh well... so much for that idea... got any other good ones???? :cool:
 
Okay, who was the last person to borrow the Safe-Stretcher?

Oh yeah, THR has one and it gets loaned out amongst members. I think It was Preacherman...

I have two small safes and they are full and the collection has spilled over to an ajoining closet down in my "cave". I've finally decided to build a walk-in, fireproof gun vault with a safe door. At least 8'x10'
 
Just to be an overly-serious buzzkill...

...lying to your spouse is almost never a good idea. Xmas, Valentines Day and her birthday are the only real exceptions. ;)

I would try the following:

1. Lobby for a new safe. The trip to the spa might help.

2. See if you can squeeze in a few more guns.

3. Get a couple of 'gun socks' and see if you can now stack 'em deep, since the finish is protected from rubbing/grinding.

PS You could try the "yes, but I'm saving money" angle by purchasing a jumbo safe and selling off your old one. Yeah.
 
Do as I did. I now have 5 soon to be 6 safes, all bolted to the slab. Also have a garage size, used to be one, gun storage/reloading/gunsmithing/relaxing room. Wife laeves me alone except to bring me a cup of java every so often!

Do what I did, get a bigger safe.......actually the "bigger safe" I got bought me a year before it became full.

So now I'm in the same boat as you.....Got to get a bigger safe again.

Oh what a horrible dilema/.
 
I recently solved this problem by moving most of the mil-surp bolties or project rifles out of the safe. I pull the bolts and lock the bolts in the safe, wrap the rifles in gun socks, and line the rifles up against the side of the safe.
 
Can't do the garage routine. My wife is a woodworker/engineer so she spends more time in the garage then I do. Also see the part about engineer and you can understand that the spa routine/butter her up is out. SHe is more of a tomboy then a girl, so I am stuck there.

I tried to sort and restack this morning but the only way out I can see is to pull the bolts out and store them separate so I can pick up maybe one more slot. I thought about pulling the cheaper ones out, locking them with a cable lock and put them in the Aluminum carrying cases I have. My concern here is rust over time in the deep south.

I think I am sort of stuck unless I get another safe. Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions.

Oh, yeah, yes I do have several/many M1A's. My favorites are the SuperMatch and NationalMatch guns. The rest are just "there".
 
Your safe is full and the best thing you can think to say is "dang it?" You poor guy. How tragic.

Out of the kindness of my heart, I will solve your problem by relieving you of your guns. Simply send them to me and I will only charge you shipping. Problem solved, cheaper than a new safe ;)
 
My safe was filled back when I got my C&R license. I wound up buying a second safe and filled that one in short order. It's amazing how fast you can fill a safe when you can have guns that cost $60 or $80 shipped right to your door. I had a safe cleaning day a bit ago and convinced myself to part with a few of them to make room for more desirable aquisitions. I just had too many copies of the same thing. When I first got my C&R I'd look at one of the catalogs and see $59 Mosins, or $79 Enfields and say "Heck, why not get 2 or 3 at that price?". Yep, filled a brand new safe real quick!
 
if your wife's a tomboy then you could go with the "we need a new safe for YOUR new guns, honey" ploy

my wife's very concerned about keeping old pictures, taxes etc, so i didn't catch much grief for getting the largest fort knox safe because of it's fire protection. now, "my side" is full of guns, and i have to 'reorganize' her side to fit new ones in whenever the need arises.

i anticipate needing a new safe next year, or i'll have to start leaving the less-expensive guns lying about the house
 
I ran a link of cable from the bolt hole in the bottom of the safe and then ran that through the guns lined up against the side of the safe. Secured both ends back into the safe. Pretty easy to set them free once you have the safe open and allows me to keep the more expensive stuff secured better.

Another safe isn't an option yet.
 
I have a similar but less serious problem in my safe. I still have space for a few more rifles but the space for handguns filled up a long time ago. I have to finally get around to building some shelving to stick in there.
 
Hey, Peter, send the M1As to me and I'll store them for you. That'll free up some space in your safe.

Of course, that'll mean that I'll have to buy another safe. But, then again, I need to pick up another one anyway.

See, it's a win-win situation for the both of us...

ya'll think ya'll have it bad. With the bushy V match I got today that makes either 13 or 14 long guns in the closet:eek: :banghead: The bride and I have talked about a safe but no real place to put it until I pour concete in the sun room that used to be a screened porch. The floor in there is sloped down to the exterior wall and every time a big rain comes it gets a couple of inches of water in it. Its in the back of the house. Fences, carports and such in the way so I'll have to have a pumper truck, all that and a safe..... hope I can swing the bucks before the other two kids get in college.:banghead:

So if any of ya'll deccide to sell all of your guns................. I'll come pick up your safe to get it out of you way.;)
 
I still have 5 spaces in a 12 gun wooden gun cabinet before I have to face the same problem. I think I'll just get a cheap 8 gun steel case to hold the other things. They sell for under $100 around here,
 
Well just do not do what i did. When we finally moved out of our old house, I was busy painting and the Lovely asked me what was i going to do with the old shipping box under the bench in her sewing room. Completely absorbed with what i was doing it I just said "I dunno, its your stuff" and then the panic hit me. The shipping box was the original shipping crate from Husqvarna that had came when i ordered ten or a dozen swedish Mausers. My paint brush nearly was left hanging on hte wall in my haste to get down stairs before the Lovely had pulled the box open, too late. As I ran into her room I saw she already had the box open and was smiling, in a Lovely evil sort of way, "It's my stuff!!" was all she said. Do you know what I had to pay to get my crate of arsenal refreshed Swedish Mausers back?
 
Simple problem/simple answer. Get another/bigger safe.:D You know you're going to get more guns.
