When I get back to my beloved United States from this VDZ hellhole, I would like to buy a small DAO semi-auto pistol for inexpensive double-action target practice. (I use DAO pistols in 9mm and .32 for my self-defense guns.)

So far, the only DAO .22 semi-auto I've been able to find is the Taurus PT-22, but searches for that gun in several forums show a lot of reported reliability issues. In the interest of having more options or perhaps finding a superior alternative, does anybody know if anyone other than Taurus makes a DAO .22 pistol?

One could possibly modify the Walther P-22 to DAO.

The Taurus is normaly very reliable with good ammo and they shoot very well for such a small gun.

Their problem is the fact that if you use one a lot sooner or later the slide will crack.

I have seen at least three with the slide cracked in the same place.

You could get a DAO CZ 75 9mm, and use the Kadet .22 conversion kit. For around $600 or so, you'd have two pistols - a great 9mm that you can carry, and the perfect .22 training version.

Is there a reason is *has* to be DAO?

I have the Taurus PT-22 and I hate the fact that it's DAO. I haven't had it that long, bought it used, but I was able to put 100 rounds through it at the range with only two FTE's. Both were on the last round. If it was DA/SA, I might like it more. Trigger pull is very, very long. All I can say it that it was cheap. I'm planning on shooting it again next weekend, maybe my opinion will change.

The p22 is DA/SA mine will go click click click click.. when i pull the trigger w/out racking the slide.

after that heavy as bricks da trigger pull, the sa kicks in and its gravy.

The only problem you may have is the hammer may catch on stuff if you looking for a da only.

I want to practice DAO shooting, so SA/DA is out. I considered .22 revolver, but wanted to stick with the same general class of firearm (semi-auto) as my other DAO guns.
