I'm looking for a double action only, 22LR handgun that I can mount a suppressor on. I cant think of such a thing. Is there something out there?

I love my Taurus 94 22LR revolver, but can't mount a suppressor on it. Looking for a semi auto DAO equivalent that I can shoot quietly.

Another concern is I'm not sure if it's as easy as just filing off the SA notch. Some 22s might not have a half cock or safety notch to catch it if the SA notch is gone. Or that notch might not have been designed for repeated use. Definitely don't want any potential hammer follow through doubling or out of battery issues.

Hmmm. I don't know what keeps a hammer following the slide from firing a pistol. Maybe because the hammer doesn't touch the firing pin until nearly all of the hammer's energy is gone? Which would mean the hammer isn't delayed so that it could give a full strike on the firing pin once the slide is in battery?

I can tell you that the two of the centerfire pocket guns* I have hands on experience with are hammer fired true DAO and the hammer follows the slide down with each shot, but the gun does not fire until the trigger is fully cocking and releasing the hammer again. Of course, they were designed as DAO from the beginning.

Yeah, I left the DA/SA out of my comment by mistake.

Seems like there are a few DA/SA .22 LR pistols out there already with threaded barrels such as this Walther P22 or this Ruger SR22.

Technically all walther P22 barrels are threaded. But not long enough to thread anything onto unless you have the one with fake compensator like i do. I removed it and have a barrel that protrudes 1" out the front of the slide.

OP, Why DAO? The P22 would make a lovely suppressor host.

I have the 32NAA DAO Guardian. Trigger pull makes it not as fun to shoot as the DA/SA P22.

Taurus has the PT-22, it's DAO, but you're not going to get a threaded barrel for that. You can shoot the CB Shorts or CCI Quiets from it, but you'll have to tip the barrel up after each shot to put another round in the chamber. I've done single shot drills where I keep an empty mag in the pistol and see how fast I can shoot loading it like a single shot break action.

There are a lot of 22 conversion kits on the market. Seems like that may be the thing to look for. I would assume you carry or at least own a DAO centerfire if you want to practice with a similar 22. Look for a 22 conversion for your pistol. If that fails, look up options on conversions and buy a new pistol that can be easily converted.

Never mind -- I forget that you need a longer barrel to clear the slide if you want to mount a suppressor.

I 'may' have a solution but it won't be cheap. The Beretta 92D is a DAO. You could add a rimfire conversion but you'll also have to get the threaded barrel separately. I'm just not 100% sure the conversion is compatible with the DAO model.

It cost me nearly $500 to add the conversion and threaded barrel to my M9. Not cheap but more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

Something that may or may not be what you want but maybe a viable option is the Taurus TX22. A lot more affordable and also a blast to shoot. The Tandemkross extensions add 5rds and even bump the 10rd mags to 21rds.

Nice Beretta! That might actually be my solution. I didn't know they made a DAO 92. I'll look into the 22LR conversion for that. Beretta 92s are supposedly good 9mm suppressor hosts as well.

The Taurus TX22 is striker fired, not DAO isn't it?

They are, I just wish the sights were a little taller. Here it is in centerfire mode.

The Taurus is indeed striker fired.
