Darkening a Stainless Folder Pocket Clip?

Anyone have any tips for blackening a stainless clip on a pocket folder, for a more discreet carry? Looking for something more permanent than a magic marker.

Or flat black Dupli-Color auto trim touch-up spray paint.
Or Rust-Oleum Enamal spray paint.
Or, Testers Model Enamal paint.

You could try boiling it in straight vinegar, it did a superb, yet unexpected job on a die.
