date of mfg. Rem 700 action

I own a rifle built on a Remington 700 action. The other day someone remarked, "I see you have one of the old ones with the 2 screws for receiver sights" It made me curious about when the receiver was made. The serial number is B6299875. Any idea about when it might have been made?

Look for the date code on the barrel.

If you only have an action, or a replacement barrel, I don't know what to tell you.
But I believe a B serial number would be 1981.

Wow! That was fast. Yes, I only have the receiver. 1981 seems about right. I wonder when they stopped the receiver sight mounting option? Thanks
