They don't seem to be able to take a hint do they?

Action Alert: Washington DC Already Planning To Restrict Law-Abiding Citizens 2nd Amendment Rights
The following is a memo sent to Washington, DC residents by Cathy Lanier, Washington, DC Chief of Police:
From: Lanier, Cathy (MPD)
Sent: Thursday, June 26, 2008 6:35 PM
Subject: Supreme Court Update
Residents,
Unfortunately, the Supreme Court today struck down part of the District of Columbia's handgun ban. I wanted to drop you a note to let you know the immediate impact of this decision.
The Supreme Court's ruling is limited and leaves intact various other laws that apply to private residents who would purchase handguns or other firearms for home possession. It is important that everyone know that:

a.. First, all firearms must be registered with the Metropolitan Police Department's Firearms Registration Section before they may be lawfully possessed.
a.. Second, automatic and semiautomatic handguns generally remain illegal and may not be registered.
a.. Third, the Supreme Court's ruling is limited to handguns in the home and does not entitle anyone to carry firearms outside his or her own home.

Lastly, although the Court struck the safe storage provision on the ground that it was too broadly written, in my opinion firearms in the home should be kept either unloaded and disassembled or locked.
I will comply with the Court's reading of the Second Amendment in its letter and spirit. At the same time, I will continue to vigorously enforce the District's other gun-related laws. I will also continue to find additional ways to protect the District's residents against the scourge of gun violence.
Residents who want additional information can visit the Metropolitan Police Website at http://www.mpdc.dc.gov/gunregistration. Residents with questions are encouraged to contact the Firearms Registration Section at 202-727-9490.
Sncerely,
Cathy Lanier
Chief of Police

Action Needed:
Although Ms. Lanier and those in charge of the District of Columbia residents safety are entitled to their opinions, I firmly believe that they are dead wrong in their interpretation of the Supreme Court's ruling and the spirit of the ruling. I supposed that I could understand things from their point of view if they had one of the cleaner and safer cities in the nation, but we all know that is not true. I ask you all to call the Chief's office, write a letter or email and let her know just how you feel about her memo.

a.. Second, automatic and semiautomatic handguns generally remain illegal and may not be registered.

So they believe SCOTUS only says single shot handguns were OK?
I think there is a serious need for a urinalysis screening for the DC Oligarchy in general to see what was smoked, when it was smoked and if they have a note from their doctor.

According to DC's firearms laws it is also illegal to posses ammunition unless you own a registered firearm in that caliber. If you have your registered .45 and somehow end up with a live round in any other caliber you have now commited a weapons offense and will have your registration revoked and the gun confiscated, and will be unable to obtain any other registrations.

Seems like DC is doing whatever it can to prevent law abiding citizens from exercising their constitutional rights.

Also, keep in mind, that revolvers, assuming they are double-action, are SEMI-AUTOMATIC. The DC law negates their ownership as well. SAAs and their clones, however, should be OK.

Are there restrictions on what kinds of handguns residents will be able to register and possess?

Yes, under District law that the Supreme Court did not disturb, automatic and semi-automatic handguns generally may not be registered. Revolvers in the home will be legal and, as before, residents remain free to register most shotguns and rifles. Those with questions about specific firearms should contact the Firearms Registration Section of the Metropolitan Police Department at (202) 727-9490 or visit the Department’s website at www.mpdc.dc.gov/gunregistration.

What other restrictions will there be on handguns?

The new rules will allow handgun possession in the home only, and only by those who properly register their handguns with the Metropolitan Police Department. The Supreme Court has not altered the legality of carrying handguns outside the home. Given the potentially tragic consequences of storing a firearm without a trigger lock, residents are strongly urged to utilize such locks which may be obtained free of charge from the Metropolitan Police Department.

Can people register as many handguns as they like?

The forthcoming regulations to be issued by the Metropolitan Police Department will answer questions such as how many weapons residents can register, and will likely limit registrants at least initially to one handgun each.

It's the capital city of the greatest nation I've been to, and I've been to 45+ countries.
It's a sick, pathetic, horrible way to live.
Good luck, DC. You will be governed no better than you deserve.

I get the feeling that Ms. Lanier has little, if any, street experience as a police officer, and is more likely an appointed (or helped-in elected) official that serves only one person, the mayor. Any cop woth their salt can see that the mayor refuses to obey the SC decision to it's spirit, and is going to find every possible way to give away nothing. Personally, I'd consider arresting the mayor, but then again, I'm not a DC toady.

Once these idiot leaders start burning in flames for contempt of court, then others will get in step.

No semi-automatic handguns?
Agreeing with the SCOTUS ruling in letter and spirit, but still endorsing disassembled and unloaded longguns? HUH???:banghead:

The SCOTUS clearly said that, just as the 1A is a timeless principle and applies to modern technology for speech, the 2A is a timeless principle and applies to modern technological weapons.

Whe ARE these idiot leaders in charge of the police and cities? And how do they have so little common sense, intelligence, or even understanding of their own profession. She doesn't even properly identify weapons, which is fundamental to her profession.

Also, keep in mind, that revolvers, assuming they are double-action, are SEMI-AUTOMATIC. The DC law negates their ownership as well.

This doesn't sound right. Is DC actually claiming this? Is DC claiming that double-action revolvers are illegal?

"I will continue to trample on the rights of the People of Washington D.C. and take a running dump on the constitution. I am taking my toys and going home in a huff."

There, fixed that quote.

No.

The DC law in question here is separate from the handgun ban. It defines any automatic or semiautomatic weapon which holds, or can be easily converted to hold, more than 12 rounds as a machine gun. Weapons in that class will remain illegal in DC.

Hence the reference to "most semiautomatic handguns." Since the vast majority of semis have 12 or greater round magazines available, they fall under the aforementioned law.

Sounds like it's 1911 time in DC :)

The really sad thing is that there are actually citizens that are happy about this.

I guess some people feel the need to be lorded over.

My guess is that one of them, the Mayor, is an elected official. Unfortunatly the D.C. residents elected him. All though the D.C. residents may of only had a choice of electing the "lesser of 2 evils" :(

I asked a version of this question earlier, and don't like the answer. Remember that there are 20k+ gun laws in this country. Presumably lower courts will observe the latest SCOTUS ruling and begin striking them down without having to go back to the Supremes for every case. I'd really like to see the 9th circuit get its clock cleaned on the bone-headed "collective right" decisions soon.

Sent this email to DoucheBag Lanier:

G'day,

This is regarding your recent memo dated June 26 to all DC residents re: DC vs Heller.

Your position and decisions about this recent Court decision and all of America is a direct insult to all of that that the Founders and Revolutionary War soldiers fought and died for. And for that matter, it also insults all of those servicemen and women that gave their lives or put their lives on the line to make this country even exist.
