So many of the things I have seen/read about AKs is that they seem to function regardless of their treatment. Buried in swamp mud? Hose it off and shake most of the water out and shoot. Sandstorm? Shake off the worst and shoot. They aren't as accurate as ARs but the 47s have a larger, heavier round (7.62 x 39, ~125 gr.) vs. the 55 gr. 5.56 ammo. Another problem is that, pound for pound, soldiers can't carry as many rounds of 7.62 vs. 5.56, but if you don't have to shoot your opponents multiple times, that almost balances out.
