I bent my decap pin in my 9mm Lee resize die. I looked at a couple of of places to order another one but all I found was the universal decap pin. Is this the same thing, will it fit in my die?
Also, a side question. I have the Hornady resize/decap die and I'm using that for now. It seems noticeably tighter than the Lee. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just my imagination?

They replaced a universal decap pin (2 of them) for me that I messed up with off center flash holes in GFL .223 brass.
I told them It was my fault for messing it up and I should have checked the brass before I messed up the 2nd one (oopppss)
At that time they paid shipping.

If I have the right part number (from Lees site) SKU 90027

Universal decap pin works fine, just sticks out of the top of the handgun die a bit more then the pistol pin does. (at least they used to, don't think they have been changed lately)

I picked some up the next time I ordered from Midway so I had a couple spares on hand.

I sent them a note so I'll see what they say.
Thanks for the links and it's good to know the universal one will work in the 9mm die.

Email them attach a photo of the bent one and they will send a new one out.

I've never had an issue with a Lee product that required me to contact their customer service department. Good to know they stand behind their product.

The one time I contacted RCBS, it was to see about buying an expander ball in a size they they didn't show on their website. They just sent it to me.

Lyman has been another story. I bent a decapping/expander rod for their carbide expander unit. Replacement rods for that unit are not available on the website. I e-mailed customer service and asked about getting a replacement. They said I had to order it through their 800 number. I called the 800 number. The few times the line was even answered, I was transferred to a number that never picked up. No more Lyman products for me.

Lyman and I have the same relationship.

I sent the email and had a reply the next morning early. They are sending me two for $5 and change shipping. Couldn't ask for more.

I keep a good supply of spare decap pins and a universal decapper to keep me rolling in the event I run out of spares. Bent decappers happen.

They processed my request quickly as well.
I think the last one I submitted on a Sat, got a response from them Monday, and the part later in the week. < 7 days, and anything quicker would have required them to ship second day or overnight. (can't remember for sure but I think I got it Thursday)
I have had nothing but positive experiences dealing with Lee customer service.

There have been some complaints about the shipping charge, (I have been lucky no shipping charges) but I would look at it and say, did I get X$ worth of use out of the part.
Glad they took care of it for you quickly, free would have been better but I don't think $5 is unreasonable.

Overall quite happy with all my Lee equipment and Lee CS,
I have had less positive experiences with a couple other reloading companies customer service ranging from neutral to poor.

FWIW - I hang onto my broken Lee decapping pins, they've made handy pin punches more than once and I use them for other things on the bench too.

Interesting, I had no idea what they could be used for, but I've kept all three that I've bent.

First one was completely free, next one cost me shipping.

The second time, I just ordered an extra decapping die also and 3 pins. No charge for the pins, one shipping charge, $5, for the whole order...came in a padded envelope

Might be worth pointing out that they are not all the same.

The rifle decapping pins also incorporate the expander.

Universal decap in is straight like the pistol pin (but longer), for decap only.
As noted the rifles are different.

FYI The universal decapping die pin on my die is larger in diameter as well as longer OAL than the standard sized pin on my other (handgun) dies. Before I purchased the Universal die I used my 500 S&W die as a universal decapper for my shorter brass.

I just went and measured my 9mm, and .380 decap pins and they are .1745-.175. (4th digit rounded to 0 or .0005) The Universal decap pins I have
measure .175. (part of the pin that is held in the die)
.380 pistol pin is 3.5" long Universal decap is 4" long.
The actual part of the pin that goes thru the flash hole to remove the primer is .063 on my .380 pin and .067 on my universal decap pin.
I don't know if they have changed along the way. My .380 dies and the Universal pins are less than 1 year old.
Universal decap pin fits my Lee .32 S+W, .380, 9mm, .357 and .45 ACP dies.

FROGO207 what dia are your pins? Just curious if something has changed along the way.
Instead of ordering some spare pistol pins I just use the Universal decap pins for those dies and for my pistol dies if needed. (only needed one for the pistol dies).

After breaking a couple decapping pins in a row. I've upgraded my Lee universal decapper with a hardened pin from squirrel dady. So far it is working great. If you miss the hole, it will go right through case read! They come in packs of 3 and are very well made. They sell them at Midway and Amazon, but the cheapest place to get them is from squirrel daddy, $6.99 and free shipping.

The Lee decapping rods that I have are all the same diameter. The decapping pins at the end are what are different. I cannot use the universal decapper with the 357 SIG brass as the pin (needle bearing) will go into the brass and become suck in the flash hole and pull out of the universal decapping rod when I try to remove it from the brass of one type. I will measure the pins tomorrow for you.
