December Rimfire Match:

Well I never got the opportunity to best my previous target (which was mostly just a sighter target for a new type of ammo), so here goes:

Just 13pts., but considering that I used it for a sighter (working my way up big->small), and completely left out one of the targets (the next target will be higher contrast), I think I did pretty decent. This ammo is easily the best ballistic-tip .17HMR that I have tried thus far, and very nearly as good as the 20gr. HP XTPs. Honestly, I only purchased it because it was on sale for $10/ea at BPS and didn't have high hopes for it because it was such a light bullet (only 15.5gr.) and my rifle has, up until now, preferred the heavier 20gr. fodder. If you have a .17HMR I would definitely give it a shot, and see how it does, particularly if you would like a high velocity BT for small varmints and such.

:)

Excellent, Mav.
Those little circles near the top aren't much bigger than the bullet.

I found a Marlin XT-22VR at Cabelas a few weeks ago,
but I haven't had a chance to shoot it from a bench yet.
Hope to try it in the Rimfire Match sometime soon.

Only division shot in was the Unlimited Target/Magnified, with scores as follows:
Caddisflied: 15
Maverick223: 13
gregj: 20*
gregj's son: 14*
*Fired at a distance of 25yds.

Not too great for two months...am I doing something wrong, or is it just poor weather conditions? I have another match pretty much ready to start, but I'm not so sure that it's a great idea considering the participation in this one...

I can't speak for anyone else, but it's been weather conditions and an influx of work that kept me out of this one. What little shooting time I have had has been dedicated to silhouette practice. I'll definitely participate in a Feb matcd

Great to hear it, Jon. Still a bit bummed about the participation, but I have Feb. in the works and should have it ready any minute now...

:)

Well, I tell you, I knew that I didn't have a rifle capable of taking on that target, Mav, (whether or not I am!) so, while I was able to go shoot a couple of times in spite of Christmas and quail season (still have this Saturday to go!), I just didn't feel like it would have been worth the effort.

Putting together something new now, and hopefully, it will be a bit more capable. We'll see!

In January it's rare to get decent weather on those days when you have time to shoot.
I'm sure participation will pick up as the weather improves.
Spring isn't too far off.

Thanks for the kind words, CJ_74. We've had a nice long run (four years or better, give or take, I've been doing it for around 2-3), I just want to make sure that we can keep things going as I think we have a good thing going. Don't get me wrong, I've no intentions of quitting, just wanted to make sure others felt the same way.

:)

Mav, Thanks for all the work you put into this. I havent participated asweather here in Ohio hasnt cooperated when I had the days off work.
I dont mind shooting in the cold but cold and wind together and a 22 rimfire dont go together

I appreciate it, Orlando. IIRC I toyed with the idea of postponing or making a quarterly match (3mo. long) match in the past. That might be a good idea come next winter. I've been mighty busy lately, but I don't plan to abandon this match anytime soon.

:)
