Welcome to the match guys!

Q, I hope you like my rendition of your idea. I think extinguishing those flames will afford a healthy challenge.

:)

3 shots per image/ 5 shots total

Should this be 5 shots per image for 15 shots total?

I should be able to get in on this one. Looks like a lot of fun, thanks for setting it up Maverick223.

Cool, I always have problems adding up scores, and was really having problems adding up to fifty on this one with those numbers, lol.

I understand completely Maverick223, these matches can actually take a lot to organize. Your doing a good job.

I only read as far as the 3 shots per, was about to head for the range and thought to look for October's rimfire target just before I left.

pa030293.jpg

Got 1 in the flame, 4 in the candle/lighter/matchstick, and 3 in the black. One complete miss on the far right. So that makes 14 out of 27 points possible for me, right?

Oh, as you can see in the upper left of the printer paper I had to scale the pic to 86% to make it fit on a piece of printer paper. Might want to specify a scaling % in the rules.

Almost forgot, sporting class for me. CMMG 22LR M4ergy, LOVE that rifle. I've got another CMMG dedicated 22LR upper on order, the new one won't have the fixed front sight post and is supposed to come with a stainless bolt. About to order some more mags now that they're down to $20 for the Black Dogs.

Sorry for the confusion, happygeek. If you get a chance, take it back out there and try to poke a few more holes in it (2 more per image). Don't know what was going on with the scaling, it printed fine for me, but I may have it set to "fit to page". I'll check my settings and report back, but your 86% looks pretty close to me.

Edited to add: Just tried printing again, and it did well using the default setting of Centered & Rotated To Fit in Microsoft Photo & Fax Viewer.

Not to confuse anyone, but I thought I would also share the original idea I gave to Maverick. We called it "Matchstick" when I was a kid. Dad & I were amateur woodworkers, so we always had scrap 2x4s laying around. Dad would take those and rip them into strips about the size of paint stirring sticks (say, 1 foot long and 1 1/2" wide by 3/8" thick). We would give the top 3" or so of the sticks a blast of left-over spray paint (we had a bunch of red, for some reason, making them look like matchsticks - thus the name) so that all sticks were equally tipped with red. Stick the "Matchsticks" at whatever distance and shoot - whoever cuts all of the red off first, wins.

Since not everyone has access to scrap 2x4s, Maverick adapted the idea to this photo.

I hope to go shoot it this afternoon, if all goes according to plan.

In addition to some folks not having 2x4s laying around, some ranges only allow paper targets, otherwise I really like the idea.

:)

Got the day off Firday. Weather looks to be beautiful with 5-6 mph winds.
I'm loading up the rifles and heading to the range.
Hopefully I have my Kimber issues fixed

Need some help ASAP.Leaving for the range and I cant get the targets to print correctly.
They are printing across the paper so I am only getting half the target.
I have tried everything I can think of but cant get it to print longways
Help!!

My apologies on the slow response, but you should be able to print it in Windows Picture & Fax Viewer. In case that doesn't work I have included a copy of the image rotated just in case you have trouble with it. Hope this helps;

Mav.

Well it was a beautiful day at the range. Got my kimber back on track, shot 1 3/4 inch groups at 100yds 8 rds.
Never could get the printer to work correctly. I'll have to give it anothet try later

Glad to hear that the Kimber is doing well, and keep me posted on the printing issues. Anyone else had any problems?

:)

Got back out to the range this evening, this time for 5 rounds per pic

pa090294.jpg

Well, I only had 2 clean misses. That far right one is hard to hit. Hit the candle all 5 with 2 in the flame on that one, if nicks count as hits that is. 4 lighter hits, 1 in the black, might have nicked the flame with the uppermost lighter hit. 1 in the matchstick and 2 in the black, if nicks count.

Do nicks count? If they do then I did ok.

My new CMMG 22LR upper came in yesterday so I wanted to try that out too. I was pretty psyched that it cycled 100 or so rounds of Aguila just fine since my old upper only liked Federal and Winchester bulk packs.

I am reminded of High School JROTC. When recruiting at the end of the school year for the next year the eigth graders got to see our gear. The most impressive thing was when they would file out to the 50 foot range and watch a single shot be fired. From an unsupported, but slung up, prone, a member of the rifle team would strike and light a strike anywhere kitchen match with a round of match .22LR from a Winchester 52D.

Absolutely, it would be hard to get a hit completely within that wee little match stick. ;) BTW, I think you did manage to catch the edge of the flame on the lighter on one shot.

kBob, that is an interesting story.

:)

Nice! So with nicks counting I'm looking at

Area hits points
flame 3 9
candle/lighter/match 7 14
black 3 3

for 26 out of 45 possible points.

I was finally able to take my Marlin to the range today and took a crack at this content.

My scanner is on the fritz, so I had to use a digital camera to take the pics of the target(s). I included closeups of each group since the camera shots are kinda crappy.

Marlin 917V in .17HMR
Mueller 8.5-25×44 scope
Hornday VMAX 17gr

I'll let you tabulate a score Maverick223. I wasn't sure if breaking the line counted for the next higher point value (I'm an NRA/CMP serivce rifle shooter by nature)

nbkky71,
That's some pretty doggone good shooting!

Maverick223,
I added another .22 rifle to the stable tonight. Gonna take a little work before I can shoot the October match with it, but if it shoots as well as I think it will, the Anschutz 1451ST might be up for sale (minus the scope but with the micrometer peep and globe front (with inserts).

Guy advertised a Romanian model 69 (1983 vintage) military .22 trainer on our local concealed carry board for $100. He posted pix and it didn't look too bad, so I jumped on it. He even delivered it and I had it in hand within an hour from the "I'll take it" post. I've seen them cheaper and higher so figured I couldn't get burned too bad (I didn't).

Stock finish needs a bit of work as I knew from seeing the initial pictures, but mechanically it's in excellent condition with a shiny, sharp bore. No import markings on it that I've been able to find either. The stock has a shiny (probably shellac) finish on it that's chipping so I'll strip it tomorrow and once I get it down to bare wood, I'll give it a few coats of boiled linseed oil and finish it off with Tom's 1/3 wax (1/3 BLO, 1/3 turpentine and 1/3 natural colored beeswax). Should come out looking pretty nice. There's only one pretty big dent in it that may or may not steam out.

The metal has some wear and a few scratches in the bluing but some Brownell's Oxpho blue cream should fix that and then it'll have a nice place in the gun rack.

nbkky,

Great shooting!

KSCCH,

Sounds like a fun project. I'll be real interested to follow along and see what all you do. Unfamiliar with that model. Adjustable trigger?
