Been meaning to try this for the past couple of months. Here's the best of the 4 targets I had time for this weekend.

Rifle: 10/22T pillar bedded barrel, otherwise stock
Scope: 2-7x set@7
Ammo: Federal 40gr solid
Position: Bench with sandbag rest
Environment: outside, 60f, medium wind gusts L->R

Score (target class):

2 miss: 0
2 black: 2
4 candle/lighter: 8
7 flame: 21

Total: 31

Hi, Mav and KSC. Question on KSC's target. To me it looks like he hit the lighter on the three shots scored as "in the black", no? That would give him an additional 3 points. Or does it matter what part of the lighter we hit?

Also, it looks like Mitch may have 8 shots in the flame, versus 7. Unless one shot at the matchstick fell off the paper?

Man, I'm starting to sound like a second-guessing, back-seat-driver! Definitely not my intent. ;)

I'll be posting what I think is a 35 soon, but it may depend on the answer on how to score the lighter.

THANKS

P51D

There are 2 misses to the right of the match. The 2nd one is half on, half off the paper and hard to see on the scanned version but very clear on the original.

I believe you are right, giving him 3 more pts., in addition to the one added for being "in the black" on the matchstick. However he scored the five hits in the candle flame as "20", and these should have been "15" (because the bonus of 5pts only awarded on the matchstick target). So the total should be 37pts. not the original 38. Sorry for the confusion and points deduction, KSCCHTrainer, but is still a great showing.

:)

Hey, works for me. Scoring was a little confusing and that's why I asked you to check my original figures.

Been busy making the missing part for my second Romanian M69. Made one the easy way and made one the hard way this morning. (Carved it out of a block of steel with a Dremel tool). The first one was made by silver soldering a piece of 3/16 square key stock onto a piece of 5/16 hot rolled steel and filing everything to fit. Both of them work just like they are supposed to.

Left hand pix is the one made by silversoldering the key stock onto the rod and the second one was carved out of a piece of 3/8" square key stock with my battery powered Dremel "Stylus" and several coarse abrasive burrs plus a thin cutoff wheel. It's amazing how easy it is to carve with that cutoff wheel, you can get more control that I thought for quickly roughing out the figure.

Scoring was a little confusing
I have a tendency to do that. :uhoh:

BTW, good work on the missing part, I bet either will work for a long time (and may prove to be better than the original). A Dremel can be a very handy tool (as can a torch).

:)

Posting what I think is a 35. That's a fun, challenging target. I hope to get one more shot at it. P51D

Lookin' good P51D. It appears that I finally found (or rather, made) a target that is feasible (you can actually see and score hits on it), but challenging enough that it is very difficult to make a perfect score (at least from the looks of things so far). That balance is more difficult to obtain than one might believe.

On that note: we are about 1wk out from the next match, so be thinking about what the next target should look like (and feel free to post a suggestion here).

:)

Think I'm going to miss this one...

Our 50 yard range is closed for sight-in days and Sat., our 25 yard range was closed for refurbishment work. Dunno if I'll be able to get back to it.

Looks like everyone has the flames under control though.

Here is mine,
Score: Think I got a 29
Rifle: Browning A-bolt .22lr
Class: Scope 12X, shot off bags and bench
Weather: cloudy, 27mph wind gusts at 7:00 to the target.
Can't wait till I get a nice calm day to shoot one of these targets. I did get to use my new scope ( was hard to sight it in in the wind), a Scheels brand 4-12x33, loved it.
The match could be a 4, giving me a score of 28pts. Either way doesn't matter, it got me out to the range and got to shoot my.22lr, Russian SKS and my Sig Sauer .380 auto, had a blast!

If I can think of any other excuses as to why I didn't get a perfect score I will add them later! :)

Gonna do my best to get in this one. Its getting harder to get to the range now with my work picking up.

I think you did too. Good showing, Clint.

I'm sure you can some up with something...perhaps fog or facing into the sun. :p

Mav,
Sent you a pm to suggest a target for the November match (assuming we're gonna have one) and forgot that we can't attach photo's or PDF files to PM's.

Didn't want to post the target PDF here until you had a chance to see it, so if you'll PM me an email, I'll send you the PDF and you can then decide if it's appropriate or not.

Jim

PM received, one back at 'ya. BTW, feel free to post suggestions here as well.

Well I didn't have an opportunity to shoot this month, just too many unexpected events that I had to take care of...hopefully next month will go a bit smoother. Anyway, thank you all for participating and I will update with the results and new match as soon as possible.

:)

Sent Mav this target in a PDF file to pass on if he decides to use it for the November match.

I scrounged it off the Lee Enfield bunch on another forum, but it's a pretty decent fun target for both irons and optics.

Mav said something about wanting to keep Nov's match to 25 yards as a lot are shooting indoors for the upcoming winter. Even though I always shoot on the indoor range here, and can shoot at 100 yards there if necessary, a short range match might be fun too. Especially with the small "X" on this one.

If the target is too big, might make it a 25 yard "offhand only" match for the optics guys and let the irons guys shoot it anyway they like except bench rest?

:)

KSCCHTrainer, I like it, and while I can see why you sent in E-Mail, I don't think that there is anything wrong with it. Unless there are any objections (i'll ask Art just to be sure) I say use it. What about making a head shot worth 5pts, and anywhere outside the target/head worth 3pts (target portion scored as marked)?

:)

It wouldn't hurt, but isn't necessary IMO. I am getting ready to "air" the Nov. match with the target, just let me know if you decide to add 'em.

:)

I tried it, but after looking at a print-out, the extra numbers clutter up the target too much. I say leave it "as is" and just publish the scoring in the rules. Works for me.

Sounds like a plan.

BTW, here is a link to the November Match.
