Well don't get too riled up

So I've narrowed my search down to the CZ75B and in the other corner, the Ruger P89 in stainless.

The price difference for either gun NIB seems to be negligible, as is the cost of after market mags. Either way, the used market around here sucks unless you want a "deer rifle," so the purchase will likely come from Bud's (unless I find a better price somewhere).

Opinions anyone? I'd love to just get both, and may at some point, but right now I'm on a bit of a budget. Any comments or insight would be very welcome.

I like the fact that the CZ can do Condition 1 carry, but as I can't carry here (WI) it's not really an issue, but the decocking feature on the Ruger is just that to me, a feature, not a selling point.

If you are on a budget, you can usually find a ruger p89 stainless used for less than $300.

The 75B Stainless RULES over the stainless Ruger.
I've had both guns, the Ruger didn't stay around long.

Dang that's tough. I have a KP89 and it even beats my SIG as favorite auto-pistol, but the CZ is a total winner and will be my next purchase. You can't go wrong on this choice.

I think the real question here is which one to get first.

You simply cannot go wrong with the CZ. When I was shopping for my first pistol I looked at both the Ruger and the CZ. I shot them side by side (my sister has the Ruger, I rented the CZ) and after a mag through each I knew I would go for the CZ. It fit me about 1000% better. The Ruger was very bricklike for me. All of this is subjective, of course. Either will serve you well. They are both rock solid. If you can, sepnd some time on the range with both and see which one works best FOR YOU.

Try to handle them both and see which fits your hand better. You may find you have a preference.

If they feel about the same, go with the CZ. In my opinion it has a better trigger and us less "clunky" then the Ruger.

The advantage of the Ruger is that it is a tank. They are clunky, and I don't like the DA trigger, but they are extremely reliable and durable guns. The CZ's are reliable as well, but the Ruger toughness is legendary.

Still, I went with the CZ and now I have two.

Do you intend to use the gun as a club? If so go with the Ruger.

If you want a gun that can be CCW'd easily and is as good or better quality than the other, then go with the CZ 75B.

They will both go bang when you pull the trigger, but the CZ will just look a lot better doing it.

CZ, CZ, CZ! There's no question for me! CZ, CZ, CZ! Especially a 75B! There's nothing wrong with Ruger Centerfire Autoloaders. They're practical, dependable, accurate pistols. But they're as ugly as home-made soap & have triggers that can't match a CZ75. It's like this, King ole' buddy, there's NOTHING the Ruger provides that the CZ doesn't...so why not marry the pretty sister?

The only other reason to go with the Ruger over the CZ would be the decocker. Manually decocking the CZ75B would be more likely to cause probalems if you carry every day. Since you can't carry in the PRW, it's a non-issue and even if you eventually do carry. Safe handling practice makes this slight inconvenience worth the trouble IMHO.

Just picked up a CZ75b myself and I couldn't be happier. They do have a decocker version if that is what you're after. I went with the regular CZ75b as seen below.

CZ for a couple of reasons. First it's a "better" gun IMO. Not that there is a single thing wrong with the Ruger, it's also a very fing gun , durable as all get out, but lacking in ergonomics and this is where the CZ really shines. Second is the CZ may see import restrictions in the next few years, whereas Ruger will sell you a five round version of the P89 if that's what it takes to keep it legal.

If you get the CZ be sure to only use CZ or Mec-Gar magazines.

You will never regret the purchase of a CZ75B.
I bought one almost as an after thought. A few trips to the range, and it quickly became my absolute favorite handgun. The trigger was fairly smooth, but it was suggested to me to dryfire (use snap caps) it about 1000 times (this was usaully done on the couch in front of the idiot box), after that silky smooth, and very accurate right out of the box. IMHO one of the best values around today.

You can also buy PARTS and have a gunsmith TUNE a CZ75B if you want! Ruger won't sell certain parts (for liability reasons?!?) so it almost IMPOSSIBLE to have any tuning or repair work done on a Ruger without returning it to the factory. I know because I liked & bought a P45 but couldn't find ANYONE willing/able to tune the action.

I can't believe you use them in the same sentance

:what:

rugers are ok guns but they are not even a pimple on the butt of cz! There is nothing a ruger can do that a cz can't do better.

That includes just laying on a table and looking pretty.

The 75b is truly one of the all time great designs. Time will forget all about the p89. If you are going to compare a ruger to cz at least have the courtesy to make it a p95. Even then there is no comparison.

King,

The best way to get your answer is to get one of each, rented or borrowed and shoot them. That will tell the tale for you. I have and the CZ in my gun. My 75B stainless is not only very handsome but ultra reliable and accurate.

Both companies have excellent customer service if something goes wrong.

This is a serious mismatch. The Ruger has clunky ergonomics, a crappy trigger, and awkward aesthetics The CZ is the best buy for the money among high quality handguns: great feel in the hand, nice SA trigger, good looks. If you insist on a decocker, CZ makes those, too.
