Help me decide. I really like both. Both fit my hand well. Not going to conceal carry. Will take it while in the woods, etc. Home defense. Range time of course. Something I plan to keep.

This will be my first pistol purchase in over ten years so I am looking for longevity/durability in a do-it-all gun.

Opinions on other models welcome, but no Glocks. Bad fit for me.

Thanks

Hard decision!

I am huge Taurus fan [high quality and affordable] If you go Taurus I would go with the 24/7 Pro. These guns are extremely fun to shoot and very reliable.[my first Taurus 24/7 now has close to 4,000 though it] The five inch barrel is out now on the 24/7 since it will not be a concealed carry gun. UPC code is 7-25327-60165-4 for black and for stainless slide it is 7-25327-60166-1 Also the 24/7 Pro has a 12 round mag capacity. Pt145 is a great gun but does not have all the features of the 24/7. The 24/7 never jams, rapid fire is excellent.

I have two XD's and I have both the service model and Tactical. My service model [4 inch] I have had a while longer. The XD is an awesome gun also. Over two thousand rounds never a hiccup. No matter what the ammo. The Xd is a very accurate gun for an plastic semi-auto.

Its a hard choice to make . But if you go Taurus, I would make it the 24/7.

The best to You and Yours!

but no Glocks
You glockist, how dare you!

To be honest, I won't own one for the same reason (what is it with that hump on the back of the grip, anyway?). I would consider a Glock if the next generation follows the M&P design with an interchangeable grip.

I can't speak to the Taurus, but I'm very impressed with my XD. It is phenominally accurate, and the only jam/misfeed problems I've ever had were bad ammo (I know because the ammo jammed almost ALL of my .45s).

The PT145 and 745 are guns that just HIT the right notes all round, reliable, accurate, solid.

I love mine. And the XD looks like a mutated lego brick to me. The Taurus is sleek, clean, and with the stainless model, you get the "train tunnel" .45ACP muzzle a bit more highlighted as deterrent to a BG. :)

I replaced my PT-145 Mil Pro with an XD45 Compact. My accuracy is better with the XD45 than it was with the PT-145, but the Taurus was a DAO, so that explains the difference, better trigger on the XD. The new Taurus SA/DA models may even the score on that point, but I haven't shot one of those new models.

For range work, the XD is just more fun, easier to clean, and you can get better sights for it (I put TFO sights on the XD, which are really nice, great for the range during the day or at nightime). I like the idea of 3 extra rounds with the XD45 if I'm not trying to conceal it(you get both a 10rnd and a 13rnd mag with the Compact) and better ballistics from a 4" barrel, than with a 3.25" barrel.

I still carry my PT-745 during the summer, it conceals a little better.

It really comes down to which one you shoot better and feel most confident in.

The replies are great, thanks. Looks like the XD is the one. Supposedly the PT is no longer Cali. legal due to some changes Taurus is making/made. Ya gotta love it here...:banghead:

xd all the way, for many reasons. they are great all around guns they are reliable as heck, accurate, dependaple, and can take a heavy beatin, and even function full of dirt and grit. plus the sa warranty is one of the best outy there and thier customer service is excellent if you should ever need them. if you get the xd you will be happy you did!

Niether gun has been around long enough to be a good purchase for longevity.

You want a 10 year gun, buy a 1911, or something else.

Can't gp wrong with either one. I think the PT145 will conceal easier. I love my 140 due to it's ability to conceal while still giving me plenty of firepower.
I guess if you are going to be rolling around in the sand, mud, lakes with the firearm and plan on having your gun run over by a tank, go with the XD:rolleyes:

Man this is a tough one.....since I have both the PT-145 Millennium Pro and the XD-45 Service.

My Taurus has been carried daily, everywhere I go, for at least two years, as a part time BUG and a part time Primary Cary Weapon. I have over 3000 rounds through this little hand cannon and absolutely no problems whatsoever. It is very accurate and a hoot to shoot. If it were my only weapon, I would feel quite confident with it in the primary role 100% of the time. It is easy to carry....I simply drop it into my right front pant pocket in an Uncle Mikes Pocket Holster and it disappears....well almost. It slightly bulges the pocket of my dress slacks...but no more than my keys do. I also have a Galco IWB that I carry it in sometimes, but I prefer the pocket carry.

My XD-45 is another winner. I've only had this gun since Feb 06 but it gets carried almost as much as my 4" Wilson Professional does these days. I have a great IWB holster for the gun that makes it disappear and is super comfortable for all day carry. The XD like my Wilson, is always backed up, by the Taurus. I have over 4000 rounds through the XD and it like the Taurus has yet to cause any problems....other than causing me to have to reload more often.....but then that's not such a bad thing now is it.

Today i held a 145 at the gun show, and shot an xd45 at the range. From what i can tell the grip on the 145 is very nice, i have somewhat large hands and it fits them perfectly. I'm not sure on the recoil since the barrel is a bit shorter than i'm used to, but its definitely comfortable to hold. The xd45 was a very nice gun to shoot. In spite of the fact that i haven't shot in a couple of years i didn't have much trouble with the recoil or any of that stuff. Really i don't think you could go wrong with either of these, but i'd give a few points to the xd since it seems like they get less complaints about malfunctions and what not than the taurus's do on here. But since the taurus's have a lifetime warranty, maybe thats a moot point.

Xd45C

I have owned both. The XD45C has replaced my PT145MP as my main carry gun. It is the same size and capacity. The saying that neither gun has been around for awhile is a crock. The XD is designed as a war weapon as the old HS2000.

It is a battle proven design that springfield has bought the rights to import and put their name on.:fire:

+1 For Steve!

The Taurus and the XD when maintained properly will serve you for a very long time. These are well designed-well built guns. Even in their short history they show they are reliable, and truly functional. I own both and when taken apart they have many features of much more expensive guns.

The Best to all!

Frank

I've got the SA-XD Tac in 45m ACP, and the PT111. I love em both. Don't know what recoil would be like with the pt145 though.

If them are your only choices I go with the XD. I have had three taurus handguns and 2 went back for repairs in the first couple hundred rounds, I now own 0 taurus guns and unless I am given one free I will not own another.
