Let's hear some stories of dedication regarding how you went about acquiring a firearm(s). What sort of actions did you have to take to acquire a firearm(s) you just feel in love with or just had to have? Did one take years of saving change or working side jobs? I'm interested in hearing some stories!

I will start. Last summer, I helped my buddy with his business. He sells fire wood during the summer months and actually makes a decent amount of change. Chopping logs for 10+ hours a day in the "dog days" of summer was fun, let me tell you. Not to mention one hell of a work out. He gave me what he could and I had no problem with that. After a few weeks, I earned enough money to get a Chinese SKS I purchased from another forum. It was better than I expected and shoots flawlessly. Although I could sell it today for double what I paid, I will never part with that rifle.

Well, anyone who got their "one in a lifetime" Garand from the DCM -- back when it was the DCM -- can relate what a headache and a looooooong wait that was. My how times have changed! :D

Of course, I paid, $265, if I recall correctly. My how times have changed...:(

I have an AKS-74 that my wife bought me as a parts kit and I started to build on a bent flat. Halfway through I just decided the kit was too nice for the sort-of crappy build I was producing so I put it away ... for two YEARS! (Moved, changed jobs, etc.) Last year she bought me a Nodakspud receiver and a buddy who is an AK wizard helped me to finish it more perfectly than I could have ever done on my own. Now I'm glad I waited to do it right, but I'd never have had to patience to plan it out that way.

My uncle owned a Remington 541-S. I'd kid around with him from time to time about letting me have it, but never had any luck convincing him to let it go. Finally, one day at lunch, out of the blue, he asked if I'd like to buy it.

I figure it only took me 15 years or so to talk him out of it.

Two expeditions and several legal documents into it, I'll retrieve a set of guns from a GA hunt plane wrecked deep in the Maine woods, this spring.
