I recently purchased a Kel Tec P11 in order to be able to have a small defensive handgun that is ultra compact and therefore available when I can't conceal anything larger or don't want the extra bulk. Now for my question on Defensive ammo, which one generally works better, in these small weapons, for defensive purposes? A midweight bullet, such as the 124 Grain standard pressure or +P hollow point, or the Heavier 147 Grain Hollow Point. Also, assuming they both cycle reliably in the intended weapon, which would you choose, between Winchester T Series and Federal HST's if the prices were the same or comparable and why? Thanks in advance for all replies, and in case anyone is thinking I'm trying to start an arguement as to which ammunition performs better, I'm not, what I'm doing is trying to find out what other people would choose and if possible find out what has worked for others in this weapon.

Personally I choose 115 grain Rem HPs. They have a good performance record, feed in almost any gun that will feed ball and are relatively inexpensive. I have shot various bullet weights through my PF9s and can attest to 115 s and 124s being easier to recover from recoil for follow up shots compared to the 147s I also had jams some feeding issues with the Winchester 147s.

most keltecs [p11 pf9] don't do well with 147's....i haven't tried them in my subbie, so i can't comment...gary

My P11 doesn't really like the 147 stuff. It'll handle about anything from 124 down. I load 6.4 grains Unique behind a 115 Hornady XTP. It shoots to point of aim with this load, most others shoot high, is a +P load so I don't fire much of it at the range. I've fired probably 500 rounds of it out of over 11K rounds the gun has fired since I bought it in '96. The gun is still shooting that load to POA and 3.5" groups at 25 yards and 100 percent reliable. It produces 1263 fps/410 ft lbs 15 feet from the muzzle, pretty impressive ballistics. I have no reason to change loads. :D And, yes, I know Mas Ayoob's thoughts on the subject, so spare me. :D
