The “militia” as defined by U.S. Code is every able bodied
male between 17 and 45 who is a citizen of the United States or
has declared an intention to become one, as well as female members
of the National Guard and former members of the regular
armed forces under age 64
.

I am not a former member of the armed forces, but I am under age 64. Can I volunteer anyway?

Just chiming in...

As opposed to Grolier or Britannica, which says whatever it feels like on a yearly-published basis.

I've actually had this debate with professors. I do use Wikipedia for certain research papers. I've cross-checked it enough with major Encyclopedias and other sources to know that it is damn accurate. I got the same old line, "you can't trust what you read on the interent" to which I replied, "you can't trust what you read in the New York Times either..."

+1

The internet has changed everything and I think a lot of people from the "old school" are upset that something is more reliable then them. People turn to the net because it is more adaptable to CHANGE and it seems that you can't TRUST the old ways anymore. I've seen more than my share of BS out of print newspapers and magazines. (I am a journalism major by the way) We often have many discussions about this very thing in my courses. Being gun owners, we should know better than anyone the propaganda that can go on in news. In everything you should check the facts. Just because Wikipedia is "on the net" does not make the information any less accurate or relevant. Which brings me to another point and shows the caliber of people that come to this forum: I have read and seen more useful information on this site than I have ever experienced in "real" life. A lot of people on here seem way more knowledgeable than I could ever hope to be and give a lot of accurate, great advice. You guys (and ladies) are great. :D

Noah Webster's 1828 define "Regulated" as Adjusted by rule, method or forms; put in good order; subjected to rules or restrictions.

However, if you read the actual wording of the Second Amendment "regulated is related to the militia not the arms. The were "organized" or "well-regulated" un-organized militia. Meaning, there were strict requirements for militia duty, they had officers, and they drilled on a regular basis. If you failed in your militia duties, in colonial times, you could face monetary fines or even be put in jail.
