Yes, my DTI upper hits plates out to 600 yards with nothing more than an Aimpoint and irons.

It depends. Are you using irons or a scope? Are you shooting freehand or from some form of a supported position? I wouldn't be surprised if you could get 3-4" groups at 200 yards from a Del-ton kit with a stable shooting position. Get out in the field and things will only open up from there. If you are shooting larger varmints it should be able to do the job if you are up to the task. A lot depends on you.

For just varmints in general will it be fine within a few hundred yards? If I am using a bipod? I wouldn't mind getting a varmint upper from RRA or the 6h from Stag but I don't know if I am willing to pay more money. Would it be worth it if I were to do this?

If you think its good enough go for it. It was enough for me when I had mine, but I sold it with the Obama rush and I never shot at small critters. If you can shoot well and 3-4" is good enough for the targets you are aiming at then you should be fine. I have some friends that could be given a rifle that shot 1/4" at 200 yards and not hit the broad side of a barn. Others could be given a rifle just within limits and consistently make hits. It's your money, buy what you want. My rifle shot 3-4" at 200 yards. If that's within your requirements don't look back. If not spend the money on something known to be more accurate. You have to choose.
