Oregon man kills wife with a ND

http://www.kptv.com/news/14882840/detail.html

TUALATIN, Ore. -- A man who signed on to become a Clark County sheriff's deputy accidentally shot his wife to death in Tualatin on Sunday, according to police.

Police said Ryan Osbrink, 24, was practicing drawing his pistol from a holster when it unintentionally discharged as his wife, Kimberly Osbrink, entered the room.

A bullet struck Kimberly Osbrink in the stomach, police said. When emergency crews arrived, they said they found Ryan Osbrink administering first aid to his wife, who was rushed to Oregon Health & Science University.

Kimberly Osbrink later died at the hospital.

Ryan Osbrink had signed an offer of employment with the Clark County Sheriff's Office. His first day of work was to be Dec. 19, but his hiring has been delayed pending the outcome of the investigation.

The gun used in the shooting was a .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol that Osbrink owned.

The Tualatin Police Department is still investigating the shooting. Their findings will be forwarded to the Washington County District Attorney's Office for review.

Idiot!

Let's count the rules...

rule #1.... *maybe.* He may or may not have "thought the gun was loaded. Article didn't say. But I'm guessing not. Violated.

#2... Oh yeah. That one's definitely out the window unless this is a homicide. Violated.

#3.... Ehhhhh, he meant to pull the trigger. Though, why the hell he didn't stop when his wife appeared in the doorway is a big questionable. I'll give him this one....

#4... Oh, bigtime huge violation of #4.

I feel very badly for this woman's family. What a STUPID reason to die.

Wow, I really feel bad for this poor guy.
I don't think his gives a lick about his career right now.

Agreed. This makes me sick. A young woman's life has ended and this guy will live with it for the rest of his life.

I think RKBABob was referring to a comment that I had in the original post but then deleted. I said something like " I guess that'll put the screws to his career plans." After seeing it posted, It just didn't seem too high road. Sorry.

Wow, I really feel bad for this poor guy

I don't feel sorry for him one bit. I feel sorry for the wife and her family who had to deal with this single digit IQ cowboy.

Guns ain't toys. He should be charged with negligent homicide as should everyone who shoots off their gun in a negligent manner where someone is killed.

No reason in the world for an ND or AD to happen. None.

Maybe I've been around too many court cases, but I'm with kludge. There's a big difference between just HAPPENING to draw and fire a loaded pistol at someone who just HAPPENS to cross your line of fire at that instant and playing quick draw games aiming the piece at them for kicks. Also a big difference between either of those and planning the whole thing.

A newly minted Deputy practicing his Wild West fast draw killed his wife. Now that's a CLM. :(

Very sad.:(

They definately need to do a thorough investigation...If they decide it was an accident and not murder, Mr. Fife should look for a new profession; one that doesn't involve carrying a firearm everyday.

I wonder if this will be investigated thoroughly

You can bet that this will be investigated properly. No only by the local law enforcement agency but by the District Attorney's Office. Both independant of each other.

. . . rest of his life

. . . and this guy will live with it for the rest of his life.
Depending on how hard he takes it, I wonder how long that is?

Seriously.

I wonder if I could live with myself.

Of all the redemption hills I've ever seen, that has to be the steepest climb.

Worse if there are kids.

Man.

No way.

I'm not going to contemplate this.
