Got a Cobra in 9mm and another of a different caliber hiding somewhere in the safes, been so long since I've shot them, I'd just about forgot I had them. Now, to figure out what and where the other one is hiding.

Only fired a derringer once. Fellow at the club had one that wouldn't fire the second barrel. I got all the metal chips out of it and alittle iol and it started working. He insisted I shoot it and insisted twice more. OK; one shot, on recoil it took a chunk out of the web of my hand. They look cool but I wouldn't buy one.

I have one of those Leinad/Cobray .45 LC/ .410 SxS derringers,I got it for next to nothing, so basically I paid what it's worth. :p It's fun to play with at the range. but I really don't have any other use for it. Maybe if I needed a snake popper for turkey country 'round here, I guess.

Well, not up to the standards of some of the recently posted German guns, but here you go.

.38Special. Half cock "safety" only.

The bottom barrel actually shot to POA at 10 yards and allowed hits on a kneeling man shaped target out to 25. Never tried further. The top barrel was noticeably high and left but not to much for 10 yard shooting.

Shooting the bottom barrel produced much less muzzle flip and movement in the hand than the top.

When loading I always worked the hammer so the bottom barrel fired first and then worked on remembering where to point the second shot. Cocking one handed was a juggling act, but do able, much easier than an original Remington 1871.

Woods walking I sometimes reversed barrel order and put a Speer shot cartridge in the top.

Its only redeeming characteristic was that 35 years ago it was small for the payload.

I would have to be pretty desperate to ever carry that thing again. In fact the only "live" ammo it has seen in 30 years has been Speer Plastic training ammo to allow a writer friend to get a feel for double derringers.

How's that for a Derringer post?

I have a Bond Arms Snake Slayer...that does just that. I kill copperheads on the farm with 71/2 shot .410 shells. Killed one this morning as a matter of fact.

I have a Davis 38spl all black I shot it last week at the range like new only shot it a few times it is loud.

My Derringer

Bond Arms Snake Slayer IV

.45 Colt/.410 3inch chamber with 4.25" barrels...the last 1.25" of barrel at the muzzle is rifled in both barrels.

It functions identically to the way kBob described his...except the bond has a cross bolt hammer block safety. I too set mine up so that the first barrel to fire is the bottom barrel.

I mostly keep mine loaded with Winchester 3" 000 buckshot loads in each barrel. Each buckshot load has five 000 .36 caliber balls stacked one on top of the other. At 7 yards shooting the 000 buckshot from both barrels I get 10 holes inside of a standard 8.5x11" sheet of paper.

My friend has shot it with the 000 buckshot loads and she compares it to and calls it the "Noisy Cricket"...the very small futuristic handgun that Tommy Lee Jones hands to Will Smith in the first Men in Black :what:

Had a bond arms. Beautiful gun, but I didn't enjoy shooting it, and don't have a problem with snakes.

I traded it towards a Springfield XDs, which is now my primary carry gun.

If I had more disposable income, I may have kept it. They are nicely made and an interesting novelty, but I needed a carry gun more.

At one point someone was making a derringer that fired .45-70. The one I shot actually had only one barrel and a spare round was carried in the lower and some what abbreviated barrel. Firing factory rifle ammo was an experience not to be forgotten.....or hopefully repeated.

A buddy and I had been given the gun to try and a round of ammo each. He watched me fire and then refused to fire his. I, suffering from tostesterone poisoning as I was in those days, fired his round as well. The darned thing would stand straight up in the hand when that 405 grain bullet started moving. At seven yards it was minute of soda can and hit POA.

If I am ever attacked by a rouge American Bison in an alley some where.......

I understand one of the more modern outfits offers an all steel actual double derringer in .45-70 with longer barrels or did.

At one point I thought the High Standard DA derringers were hot stuff mainly for conceal ability, unfortunately I could never hit diddly with them......diddly kept jumping around apparently.

The only time I ever interfered with a person with a table at a gun show he was trying to convince a lady that one like the one I pictured would be good for her defensive use.

I've got a Davis .22 that I mated .22mag barrels to. It's my gun to carry when I can't carry a gun.
Not great, but unlike my S&Ws, it always goes bang.

The problem I see with most of the modern derringers is that they are almost as big as a J-frame and bigger than some autos, but single action and with only two shots. Maybe fun to shoot, but not practical guns.

I too have a Bond arms with a bunch of barrels and consider it merely a novelty gun, purchased to satisfy a severe case of "I WANT..." with which I am hopelessly stricken. There is no cure. Someday I'll try all the barrels. It IS fun to shoot, although hardly a range gun.

My Bond 45 Colt/.410 loaded with ground walnut hulls makes a fun way to dispatch carpenter bees.

I got mine for carrying on the tractor to finish off critters hit by the bush hog. Yes, almost as big as a J frame, but shoots shells with more shot and is a lot more convenient to carry than a Judge or Governor.

Just for giggles there is another 4 shot "derringer" that might go into production.
The HJS and COP have been out of production a while but one never knows. The market and buyers are hard to read.
This may have a good chance. Time will tell.

The problem is that this was back in early 2014. I do realize that it takes a lot to get a gun squared away and out to the public but SHEEEESH!!

The COP is a much nicer looking gun IMO, and a much more useful size. Too bad the triggers on them were DA pieces of crap.

I'd still like one in my collection, but they go for $1000 or more nowadays. I won't pay that much for one.

My Davis 38 can rarely hit a 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper at 7 yards and the different barrels have completely different POI. Even light 38 loads tear skin off my thumb because the gun jumps like crazy and it's impossible to get a good grip.

I don't plan on selling it because it is so easy to carry but I probably wouldn't pay $10 for another one.

Ive got a little itty bitty 2 shot, .22LR by cimarron arms that is kinda neat. It had a 22 mag barrel as well, but it had irreparable ejection issues, so I had to get rid of it.
Kinda fun, but useless! And LOUD!
