Do not misinterpret this-I am Categorically Opposed to this ban.

I am however curious that in the worse-case scenario that such a ban would serve as regenerative force-yielding engineering innovation within the domestic civilian firearms market.

What would we see? Better, cheaper, BAR's? More modern pump and lever rifles (tubular).

I'm probably alone in this but I feel like my AR-15 and AR-10 are somewhat boring, soulless rifles actually having more affinity towards my VZ-58. Granted all the would be banned but I already have them. My Glock has more soul than an R-15. The AR is a Crown Vic whereas something relatively inspired like a Mini-15 is a Grand National (a sleeper); a BAR a CTS-V.

The beautiful gun manufacturers of my youth (American Made Winchesters, etc) have been cannibalized by de-facto subsidized government contractors. There's no R&D cost as they are just copying an existing design. They build the facilities with the proceeds from overinflated government contracts. They don't even have to shut down to retool/re-die before switching from Military to commercial manufacturing.

We look like clones and fell right into the trap. We all own same exact gun-one that could be completely banned just citing three words "AR Like Weapon"-we look like the Flag of Mozambique by the simple shadow of our guns.

Then they make a 80% profit. We look like Russia clutching our civilian market AK derived Saigas when we go Hunting. Getting an unaffected (pre-hedge fund)semi-auto, bolt action or lever gun costs a fortune

First off welcome to the forum schrodingerscat!

but I already have them

The better way of looking at a ban is that it doesn't matter if they make possession or transfer illegal. I don't know if you have kids, but guns you worked hard to get would not be able to be passed down. New shooters can't get one either, and we will need new shooters for the future of our heritage.

soulless rifles

Eh....I prefer to think of guns having a personality, but not a soul. I get your point though, there is a thing of beauty in an older gun.

We all own same exact gun-one that could be completely banned just citing three words "AR Like Weapon"

Doesn't matter. All guns are on the antis radar. None are safe.

"What would we see?"

Would the Newton shooter have just stayed home if he could only get a pump shotgun? In the twenty minutes until the police arrived, would he have killed fewer first graders with a shotgun? If semiautos had been banned and he used a pump, would the same people who want to ban ARs today want to ban pump actions?

Point of fact, yes they will. My anti-gun roommate feels that shotguns should be restricted and that buck shot should be illegal. Of course, it doesn't matter that you could still load a birdshot shell with fishing sinkers or ball bearings or home made pellets or muzzle loader balls... He really doesn't get the point.
