Went to my local dick's sporting to pick up some of the Ultramax bulk pack pistol ammo on sale for $39.98 (reg 59.99) .45 150 pk, .40 225 pack, .38 200 pk or 9mm 250 pk. Of course they had none and did not have any before the sale but they refused to give any rainchecks on ammo due to "unstable market conditions". Anybody else experience this ? I was really hoping to get at least some 38sp which averaged $10 per 50. :(

Can't say I blame them at all.

As for seeing it, it seems to be pretty common lately for stock to be limited.

Door-buster type sales are always have limited quantities and don't allow rain checks.

These are loss-leader sales. They lose money on a few items and get hundreds of extra bargain hunters into the stores, although the bargain hunters will be quite irritated.

Don't fall for it, just don't buy anything else from them. No reason to reward them for these types of sales which really are dishonest anyway.

On Black Friday I went to Dick's for the "buy 1, get 50% off the second box, limit 6 boxes total. Well there I was waiting for them to unlock the door at 0500 hrs and was first at the gun counter and they had a total stock of 2 boxes of .223. I took both but asked for a raincheck and got pretty much the same story.

That's crazy, I've been able to get two rain checks so far. One for 40 and one for 9mm, for a total of like 120 dollars

That is understandable....except this is NOT a door buster but a regular weekly sale that started Sunday.

"While supplies last..." The store I went to had a grand total of 1 box of 9mm. No .45, no .38, no .357, no .40, just one single box of 9mm. I was first in line. I spent 3 minutes with the clerk, turns out they were scheduled to be getting a nice big load of ammo on the Monday AFTER the sale. I don't see any reason to return to any of their stores.

dicks is sneaky about this

they sometimes dont stock the shelf before a sale and have it back. if you ask for it they will get it.

on black friday they have buy one get one 1/2 price.my friend went on wensday and they had 1 box. i went there on friday, and they had NO ultramax .223 on the shelf. but i asked and he got me a case from the back.

if you dont see it, it may still be there

The problem with Dick's is that their supply system is FUBAR. I worked there for three years. The one thing that surprises most people is that the folks at the store level have ZERO input into what comes to the store. Corporate send you whatever they think you need- and they're often very, very wrong.

There were several times when we'd not get in the first bit of buckshot or slugs until two weeks after gun season opened up. There times when we'd get in like one case of, say 9mm every two weeks. Other times, we'd randomly get in ten cases out of nowhere.

In short, the system was worthless for dealing with normal demand. It doesn't surprise me a bit that it's completely off the rocker with the current situation.

The worst part of it is that I, the peon with no say in the process whatsoever, was the one who got bitched out by folks.

it is pi$$ poorin my opinion. they should have to have a certain anount in stock before they run an ad. if you snooze, you loose. but to have none, or one or two boxes, is crud in my opinion.

Yea....and Dick's is not known for its good prices on ammo...even on sale. Guess I will just stick with Walmart and mail order (if I can find any more "good" deals).

Does anyone have any experience with this Ultramax ammo? Is it any good?

Here in Michigan, retailers are required by law to provide rain checks under law for advertised items. There are some exceptions, but that's mainly if they advertise a limit per store.

I don't live around a Dick's Sporting Goods, but I do live around a Bass Pro. The last time they put 9mm on sale they limited it to 1 case per customer. They ended up with two pallets left. I thought that was funny.
