OK, so I did my first 3 gun match on Saturday. It was really fun.

I looked kinda out of place with my unmodified Yugo SKS and 9x18 makarov. My 870 fit right in, though.

Anyway, alot of other guys had high capacity pistols (or standard capacity, depending on your point of view), AR's and AK's with qd magazines, and accessories like bandoliers, shell sleeves, magazine holder belt pouches, etc. all to facilitate rapid reloading for both the mandatory mag changes as well as when you simply empty a mag.

Well, it was a friendly match so I was allowed to just empty my sks after 5 shots (5 hits on steel plates at 100 yds with no mods! I like my sks better and better all the time), the use a stripper clip.
I tell you, i got tired of reaching into my pocket for those makarov mags after 8 rounds.
And reloading the 870 by digging into my shorts pocket was a little time consuming as well.

OK, so I was unprepared from an equipment standpoint.

So besides working on my shooting and finally breaking down and getting an AR, AK, (which were laready on my list) and some pouches and stuff I am finally going to do what was NOT on my list: get a high-cap mag using pistol.
That's right, I wasnt going to do it. i just didnt care that much.

Well, the highest readily available capacity ones are all in 9mm, and Glocks (ugly as they are) are reliable right out of the box, popular with lots of accessories and are easy to maintain. Hard to overlook all that.

So which one should i get: G17 or G19?

(Yeah sure, I'd love a G18! Niiiiiiiiiiiice.)

I want one with the best avaialbility of 17 or whatver capacity mags, and those 29 or 33 rounders!

Any other suggestions?

Thaks 1,000,000 in advance,

CZ 75B comes to mind....WAAAYYYY accurate...cheap high caps available. Heavy though.

OR

Taurus 92.....all of the above plus a lifetime warranty.

OR

Glock....I guess you can't go wrong there, but mags will cost more.

OR

CZ P01....use the 75B mags in it for additional capacity and carry it concealed off the line.

OR

Glock 19.........

As for rifle? I like the Saiga .308........the 16 inch barrel should create a big enough fireball to scare the bejeezuz out of an AR shooter.

I'm with Alduro. The CZ is accurate and reliable. I also agree with the Glock idea, you can't go wrong with either.

Of the G19 or G17, you should probably handle them at least if not
outright shoot them before you purchase. I also liked both of them
and in determining which to get (if I get a Glock) am going to
rent them at a local range.

Good luck.

If you just want to play the game, use whatever you want. If you want to win, shoot a few more matches, and take notes of what is being used by the guys that are winning. Consistent trends will likely emerge. And yes, getting outfitted will be spendy.

TaxPHD beat me to it. Just what do you want to do? Have fun, learn how to shoot what you have better, or compete on a sporting level and win the game?

If the first two, shoot what you have, or upgrade to what you would like to carry and practise with those firearms.

If the last, then makes notes on what is being used by the winners and save your money to buy that equipment.

If you want some new gear, 3 gun is a great excuse for an AR and a fancy Benelli, but it's perfectly OK to shoot them with the gear you've got. If you use the shotgun and SKS you have for self-defense maybe you'd be better off getting more practice with them. That said, after my second 3 gun I bought a Bushmaster 20" A3 and a Remington competition master. Hard to beat a Glock 17 for capacity in a 9mm. If you need major a Glock 21 or 35 will do it. Most of the shooters will have 1911s.
