Another no.
The first firearm I ever fired was a 12ga shotgun.
The first I ever owned was a security six.

My cousin took me shooting when I was around 11. He owned a .40s&w semi-auto and a .357 magnum. Those are the first two firearms I fired. First I owned was a .22, but it was only because of the cheap cost to shoot, my next gun shortly after was a .45.

I was very enthusiastic to shoot so it did not bother me, but if I take anyone that is apprehensive about shooting, I'd absolutely start them out on one of my .22 pistols.

I, have to back peddle on my answer. The first firearm I, shot, and owned was a single shot 12 ga. That my brother in law gave me. He took it back a few weeks later when my mother found out, and threw a massive hissy fit. This was when I, started to figure out that womans opinions about guns, cars, and money are next to worthless. A few months later I, had enough monie to buy my first gun. And it was a .22. I, think dad bought it for me just to aggravate her. If you haven't guessed their divorce did not go smoothly.

The first firearm I remember shooting was some old single-shot .22LR when I was around 10. I'm fairly certain that it wasn't the first, but I can't remember what I may have shot before.

I may have started out on an air gun... I remember shooting it before the single-shot .22. Eh, doesn't really matter.

BB gun for me. A Red Ryder for my 5th birthday in 1948.
Then I just went down hill, or up hill maybe.
.22s, .410s---- usually used 22 shorts because they were the cheapest.
Bigger and bigger; more and more. :D

Dad started us out on single-shot bolt action .22's. From there, I guess we graduated to an M1. Everything in between came later, hehe.

Ithaca M37 DSPS

The first "gun" that I purchased at 13 years old was a Webley Mk III air-rifle in .22 calibre.

Forty years later, Dad dies and I end up with a selection of 12 bore shotties of which my favourite is a 3-shot, Ithaca M37 DSPS.

So far, the only "proper" gun that I've bought is ... an *8*-shot, Ithaca M37 DSPS. :)

I'm awaiting the arrival of my next gun, a Chiappa 1887.

Regards,

Mark.

My first gun was likely no one's choice for a starter -- a S&W Model 40 Centennial J-frame snub.

I didn't take up shooting until I was an adult, and the enclosed-hammer snubbie just happened to be what an acquaintance had to sell when I decided to get into it.

The one benefit (or pitfall, depending on your viewpoint) is that it gave me a life-long appreciation and respect for J-frame revolvers... :)

First firearm I ever fired was my dad's ancient H&R break-open .410 labeled 'bridge gun company'.

The barrel had been sawn down a couple inches because long ago he had damaged it somehow (he doesn't remember how) in a manner that caused a big dent in the side of the barrel near the muzzle, and a new bead sight was never attached to it.

Yes and No.

My first gun was a 20ga pump, but the first gun I ever purchased was a 10/22.

Mine was the 30 Carbine with my grandfather one summer almost every day until I started school that fall in the first grade. I see several others have done that also. My first firearm was a .22 that I could use anytime I had the ammo for it, which I had to earn by doing chores.

The first firearm I ever fired was a Winchester Model 67 single shot bolt action rifle, my Dad's first gun that he bought used back in the early 40's.

The first gun I actually owned is a Firearms International Bronco .22. It's an odd little rifle, the stock is a metal frame, not a splinter of wood on it. My Dad was planning to buy me a pellet rifle for my birthday, but this .22 rifle was cheaper than an air rifle at the time. IIRC, it cost around $10-$12.

I now own the Winchester, and my oldest daughter owns the Bronco. ;)

My story is a little strange. The only firearms I used as a kid were .22s. Either my dad's Daisy or the rifles at boyscout camp. When I purchased my first firearm (differentiating from pellet/bb guns that I've owned) I got a 30-06. Took it to the range twice and then it sat in my closet for about a year, after which I later purchased my .45 XD.

When I started getting more into shooting, I put a bi-pod on the -06 which made it a million times more pleasant to shoot at the range (no scraped elbows), and finally bought a 10/22 to save some money on shooting.

Since then, my 10/22 is my favorite rifle and potentially my favorite firearm (though the 45 is fun when I feel like spending some money). I learned all of my trigger control, breathing, hold, etc. on the 10/22 and sometimes wonder if maybe I should have gone with that one first. Same goes for my 22lr handgun, fun and cheap to shoot, while being an excellent platform for learning the basics.

I shot 9mm and .38sp years before trying something different, then it was .45ACP. I shot a .22 almost 10 years later.

Having shot .22's and a couple shotguns that belonged to Dad and my uncle, I would guess I started on a .22.

The first gun I ever bought was a well worn Westernfield .22 bolt repeater from a pawn shop in a seedy part of a large city. It shoots just as poorly today as it did when I was young. (sigh)
