Difference between Buck Mark models

In the photos you linked, the stainless camper has the metal sight base and the black practical urx has the plastic one.

If the rear sight is pinned into a cradle that is separate from the strap that runs along the top of the pistol, it's metal. If it is all one molded piece, it's plastic. The pinhole through the sight base just above and in front of the ridges on the slide is another giveaway of a metal sight base.

Check them out in the store. I'd be surprised to find a metal base on either, but it seems every now and then they ship them that way.

I took the picture below when I was swapping out a few parts on mine.

Beyond that, the barrel and slide material should be the only differences between the two pistols.

tt5, thanks for that great explanation.

I think I read somewhere that the Camper has a bigger frame than the Practical, so I'm wondering if that means the Camper will have a larger grip diameter?

I have one of the URX models (I think the one you linked), and a Tac Sol grip I bought for it did not fit (it was too big). Sent it back and no worries, but just a head's up. I do believe the grip areas are different, but I can't say by how much. I just know that some of the Buckmark aftermarket grips don't fit my URX (as I found out the hard way).

I talked to customer service at Browning, and the guy seemed to think that all Buck Marks come with the same rear sight base, though he wasn't sure if it would be plastic or metal. His explanations didn't inspire much confidence that he really knew what he was talking about.

So it seems that the only difference between the two models I linked to in the original post is the stainless barrel. I can get both models for the same price, so it seems a no-brainer to get the Stainless Camper, unless there is something unique about the Practical URX.

The other question I have is, do you think it's worth $60 more for the Stainless Camper over the base Camper. The $60 would get me: URX grips (nice to have), stainless barrel (don't really care about this), fiber optic front sight (would probably get one down the road if I got the base Camper).

Here's an odd question:

My buddy has his FFL, so I've gotten my last three guns from him. In the summer of 2011, I didn't have a .22 pistol, so I asked him if he had any Buck Marks. He told me he didn't, but that he'd order one for me. I don't know where he got this one, but it's not in the current Browning catalog, nor can I find any mention of it on their website at all.

At first look, it's a standard Camper model. It's got the plastic top end, and it looks to me like the "standard" frame/grips. It comes with a "Contour" barrel, though, and a fiber optic front sight.

I was wondering if this was a special edition made for a particular retailer, or just something that used to be in their catalog but never made in any great numbers. Also, I'm thinking about replacing the black grips with something more attractive. Would any standard Camper grips fit? Looks like they should, but who knows these days?

^ thats a weird one it does look like a contour barrel but they usually have a Full rail yours dosent even look like it cut for one, and no i dont think camper grips will fit campers take the URX grips. Im really not sure though ceetee I'd take those pics over to RimFireCentral theres a lot of buckmark info if you look good ppl to

Got some more clarification from Browning regarding which models come with which rear site base.

Composite rear sight base: Camper, Practical
Metal rear sight base: Plus, Standard, Lite, Hunter, Contour

Funny - my brother has a Buck Mark Camper he purchased in 2010, except the grips do not look like those on the website. They are the same as the Hi-Power Mk3-inspired grips on ceetee's mystery pistol (which I can only assume is a distributer exclusive).

The sight base on my brother's Camper is definitely metal.

I've always wanted the 5.5 "Field" model with the bull barrel and hooded front site.
