so i was cleaning one of my guns tonight, after shooting some cast bullets through it. it was leaded quite badly, and i noticed how rough the bore is. i just started paper patching, more as an experiment, than for steady use. anyway, that gave me a strange idea. could i paper patch some cast bullets (undersized of course) with wet or dry sandpaper of say 600 to 1000 grit, and polish the bore that way, instead of buying tubbs final finish system bullets? and fire lapping.

This is a most excellent idea for an ultra-fast method of absolutely ruining a good barrel.

What will happen is that the abrasive paper will sand off the sharp edges of the rifling, ruining the barrel.
The fire lapping kits convert a lead bullet into a LAP, which smooths the bore, WHEN DONE RIGHT, and where appropriate.
